I am always on the lookout for dreamy and ethereal spaces for photographing families and couples. When I founded Sun & Sparrow in 2009 I was already passionate about beautiful imagery, and over the years I have been blessed to be a part of unbelievable weddings at Descanso Gardens, The San Juan Capistrano Mission, The lodge at Malibu Lake, Wayfarer’s chapel, and so many more!

It has always been a dream of mine to take pictures in a lush forest near glistening waters, so the Pacific Northwest is heaven on earth for my photography vision. It is more than a dream come true, and I am so excited to capture images of couples, families, and newborns in this amazing environment.

There are so many dreamy locations to have a photoshoot in Southern Washington. Lacamas Lake is at the top of the list because of its natural beauty and accessibility.

It is so easy for a family to park and walk right onto the grass where we make our first stop. Just after the parking lot, there is a small playground where kids can play before the photoshoot, and behind that there is a gorgeous space full of redwoods and a view beyond them of forest-covered hills, and that is before you realize that there is a BEAUTIFUL, sparkling lake to look at.

Three fun things to do near Lacamas Lake before or after your photoshoot

Downtown Camas is the most perfect little town. My family loves to walk down the street and look into all the little shops. The area has a welcoming, small-town vibe with elegance and charm. There is a lot of nature throughout the neighborhood and so many friendly people!

There are a lot of small businesses and as a business owner myself, I love to support local small businesses. We love the food at The Sushi Joint because it is high quality and fresh. The owner is very kind and spoke to us for a while while we waited for our food. We also love the environment and coffee at Hidden River Coffee Roasters. It is in a cute shop that was originally a Victorian house so it’s very charming and feels like home, just with better coffee.

Acorn and the Oak is an amazing restaurant right on Lacamas Lake. My husband and I went to this restaurant for our anniversary and we absolutely fell in love with it. The food was delicious and the service was excellent, but the best part of the experience was eating our food next to Lacamas Lake as the golden hour made everything look and feel like a dream.

If you are up for a little bit of exercise you can walk down Round Lake loop. This is an easy trail that our four-year-old joined us for. He had so much fun running back and forth on the wide trail, pointing out every little animal and berry along the way. When we sat down to take a rest we even saw an eagle!
