Roberto & Alyson // Dreamy forest engagement in Los Angeles

FROM THE BRIDE // Roberto and I met a little over 2 years ago while doing a service year in AmeriCorps and have been inseparable ever since! We had talked about getting married so I knew an engagement was coming I just didn’t know when. I already knew it was going to be the best day ever because we were going to see my absolute favorite band (Johnnyswim) which I had been looking forward to for months!! Little did I know Roberto had also been planning a proposal the whole time. He asked me to meet him a little bit early so that we could “go to dinner” but when I met him at the venue, he surprised me by saying that we were actually going to be able to meet the band! So we go in to meet the band and they are rehearsing songs for the show. After a couple songs they start to sing one of my favorite songs (Summertime Romance) and the lights go down and pretty twinkly lights come on. Midway through the song Roberto got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Afterwards the band came to talk to us and signed one of their records for us. It was the most surreal experience! I’m really looking forward to marrying my best friend and I can’t wait for all of our family and friends to come together for the wedding.

FROM THE BRIDE //  Back in 2014, Mike and I have been planning a trip to Maui for May 2015.  This was going to be our first “adult”, just the two of us trip! (Ha) As the day was approaching for us to leave to Hawaii, the only expectation I had was to relax, enjoy the beautiful beaches, and of course to always have a delicious cocktail in my hand. We had done our research on all the cool, hidden beaches to go to, and all the amazing food hot spots to hit, but the one thing we absolutely had to do was go on the road to Hana. Now being someone who does not enjoy long car rides, I was a little skeptical. But the images we saw online were to die for, and I knew if we did not go that we would both regret it for the rest of our lives! (Maybe haha) For the first 3 days we had our schedules filled with fun activities. We went snorkeling on the coral reef in Lanai, went to our first luau, resort hopped, and swam in what is probably now one of my favorite beaches, “The Little Beach”. By the fourth day, I was already feeling a little pooped, but Mike was so adamant about waking up at 5am, and making that 7 hour drive to the road to Hana. Super tired and cranky in the car, Mike tells me he wants to make a quick stop to a mini hiking trail, that leads to two waterfalls called Twin Falls. Trying to be as enthusiastic as him, I agree, and soon enough we arrive to the trail. As Mike promised the hike was short, wet, and filled with spider webs (eek!), but as soon as we both see the two beautiful waterfalls, I forget my tiredness. A group of girls leave soon after we arrive and we both get our phones out trying to capture the waterfall. As I’m recording, I notice Mike shuffling on the ground looking for something in our backpack. Completely unaware of what he’s searching for, I continue to record, and ask him casually, “why are you on the ground? What are you doing Mike?” Then I look down, and there he is, with the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen and asks me, “Boo boo, will you marry me?” I burst into tears, and completely speechless and unable to find my voice to scream “yes”, I just nod my head and soon enough, the words come out and he puts the ring on my finger. He explains the reason why he wanted to come to this specific spot to propose was because each waterfall represented both Mike and I, and the water they fell to was the “one” that we were becoming. We were officially merging into one family. This was the highlight of our trip to Maui, and I will forever remember that unexpected moment, and words, until the day I die.

Now with just 4 months until we say “I do”, I can’t wait to spend this intimate day with our closest friends and family who’ve stuck by and supported both Mike and I for the 8.5 years we’ve been together. The funny thing is, from all the years I’ve been with him, I’ve never seen mike shed a tear. When people ask what I’m most excited about, I simply reply, “to see Mike cry” 🙂

engagement-los-angeles-wedding-photographerWe had talked a lot about marriage in the year leading up to the proposal and had even gone shopping to look at rings. I started to watch for hints from Peter…perhaps a weekend getaway trip, a date night at a special restaurant…as it turns out, the day that Peter proposed was a typical lazy wear-pajamas-all-day Saturday for us.
Peter had been nursing me through a terrible cold that week and I was still feeling too miserable to go out. I did, however, need to take my car to get it serviced that afternoon. Peter offered to pick up takeout for lunch from one of our usual restaurants, so I stayed home with my DayQuil to rest. 45 minutes later and he wasn’t home yet…I was starting to get hungry…1 hour later and I was starting to worry, but also I was Hangry! Finally, he came home with food and groceries and a story about how the credit card machine at the restaurant was broken. I believed his story because all I wanted to do was dive into my lunch and eat! I only found out later that he used that time to pick up flowers for the proposal!
Fast forward an couple hours later and I came home from getting my car serviced. I was fumbling to find keys to the front door when Peter opened it. I heard John Legend’s “All of Me” playing in the background with rose petals leading up to a bouquet of roses on the table. On it had a card that read “From me and Mocha, now go give Mocha a kiss!” (Mocha is our little dachshund). I stooped down to give Mocha a kiss and Peter said “do you notice any new bling on her?” I was looking for a ring, but couldn’t find it! Mocha had a new dog tag that read “Will you & Mocha marry me”. I stood up with tears in my eyes and that’s when Peter proposed. Of course I said yes! We are so excited to be starting this new chapter of our lives together.
