Elegant wedding at the Ebell of Los Angeles // DAVID & LAUREN @ 2019 Sun & Sparrow // Dreamy LA wedding photography

1. Describe your how you felt on your wedding morning, all the anticipation and the love. What were you most looking forward to in the beginning of your day.
Lauren: Surreal. I was feeling so nervous and excited yet calm and collected. We were finally getting married after over a year of planning. It didn’t feel “real” until now. I was getting ready with my lovely bridesmaids and mom, and I couldn’t stop smiling because they looked so beautiful and also because David was in the next room over getting ready as well. I kept wondering to myself, “How is he feeling? I hope he didn’t forget this” “How does he look?” I’m the one usually in control and I had to let that go and put my trust that everything was going to be perfect.
2. Did you have a ‘first look’ or a ‘walk down the aisle’ moment?

How did you feel when you saw your significant other for the first time?Lauren: We definitely had a first look moment and it was truly amazing and emotional. When we locked eyes, tears just down my face and I had these butterflies I felt that wouldn’t go away. I hardly see him cry but when he saw me in my dress, he also cried. We had “our” moment alone and we definitely reassured each other how much we loved each other and how this day will be nothing short of wonderful.

3. What was your favorite moment/story from your wedding day?

My favorite moment from our wedding day was being surrounded by our amazing loved ones. There was so much happiness and love in the air.  To see our family and friends come celebrate us, we are so incredibly thankful for them being present.

4. How did your day most feel like a fairytale?
Everything was truly perfect. From the venue, florals, food, the little details, and our amazing vendors- our vision became a reality. Thank you Sun & Sparrow for capturing these precious moments so we can reminisce and show our children our wedding day.

The wedding day flew by so quickly. I can honestly say that it was one of the happiest days of my life. I keep thinking back and wishing that I could relive it.

Before the wedding, everyone told me that I should try to enjoy every minute of it and to not worry about the small stuff on the big day. However, after planning for this big event for so long, I couldn’t help but want to make sure every detail was going according to plan. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have listened to what everyone told me. So for all the future brides reading this, really try to enjoy your wedding day. Don’t let the small things get to you.

It’s so hard to pinpoint my favorite moment. There are so many! I loved being with just my bridesmaids in the morning; it was fun to have girls time. I loved having my dog and my sister’s dog in the wedding. I loved how the decor of the wedding came together, even though I’m not very design savvy. I loved seeing my grandparent’s and parent’s happy faces that day, knowing that they’ve been waiting for this moment for some time.

We just feel so grateful and lucky that Dennie and I were able to celebrate such an important day with all our families and friends that love us so much.

The Stillness of Motherhood // From our new mommy, Autumn Krauss

      “What are you running from?”

I was asked this question a long time ago. Eleven years ago, to be exact. It was asked in a generic Starbucks by a guy that I no longer know but I remember that he paid for my Caramel Macchiato and pulled out my chair, even though we were at a coffee shop and I thought that was weird. Yet, somehow, even though I can’t really remember his face (I feel like he was blond?) or even his last name, his question has come with me as I’ve passed the markers of life: getting a masters degree, getting married, getting pregnant.

I think it’s stayed with me because, when it slips up to me in moments of quiet, I tell myself it’s not true, though I have a sense that ironically, I’m trying to outrun a question about how I am running from things—and that those things have unpleasant names like Fear and Anger and Doubt. Always Doubt.

When I became pregnant with my daughter, Juliet, I started running within the perimeters of my life: I took on as much work as possible, I went to the gym incessantly, I saw friends near and far, I designed a nursery for Juliet, I took pictures for my Instagram, I kept busy, busy, busy and that busyness was exhausting but that exhaustion was better than the stillness of my own thoughts.

Then she came. Juliet. Born on October 20th, a day before the hottest week of the year. And I quickly learned something about babies. You can’t outrun them. They tether you, they keep you, they pull you into their rhythms and mysteries and suddenly you find yourself feeding your baby at 4am and you can’t go anywhere and you’re tired of looking at your phone and then the question comes to you in the dark: “What are you running from?”

You can’t put the baby down to go do something so you must wrestle but you are so very tired, so the wrestling turns to prayer: Lord, Have Mercy and you pray for yourself and your little girl with a desperate sincerity that you’ve never had before. And while that darkness is still there, wrapped all around you, it begins to feel more like the thing that will save you rather than drown you and you think that there just might be sanctification in the stillness of motherhood.

FROM THE BRIDE & GROOM // We were on Cloud Nine after Rich’s flawlessly planned proposal in April, and we were pleasantly surprised to learn how aligned we were on what mattered to both of us for our wedding.  Neither of us cared to host an elaborate event for hundreds of guests – we wanted an intimate experience that we could share with those closest to us that would allow us to truly enjoy ourselves.  We also knew that we wanted a quick engagement – though the thought of planning a wedding within four months was a daunting one initially!  However, as has been the case throughout our relationship, the pieces just seemed to fall into place seamlessly – within three weeks of getting engaged, we had hopped on a last-minute flight to sunny Los Cabos in Mexico, fell in love with the Hilton Los Cabos, picked a wedding date, and agreed on our wedding guest list!  Three months of fast and furious planning later and with lots of help from the Hilton’s wedding coordinators extraordinaires, Nancy and Eren (they are truly amazing!), Rich and I arrived in Cabo ready to get the party started!

On our wedding day, Rich left me three envelopes to open throughout the day; one when I woke up, one while getting ready, and one right before walking down the aisle.  I still tear up thinking about those notes, they were incredibly sweet and put any wedding jitters I may have had to rest. I knew in my heart I was marrying an amazing man.  I was strangely calm that morning and throughout our getting ready process; I had a tremendous amount of confidence in my wedding team and focused on taking in each moment.  A hiccup with my wedding dress that was immediately addressed by the Hilton’s Dream Team was the only bump in the road on my way to the altar and as soon as I laid eyes on my husband-to-be, I knew our night would be perfect.

As all of the planning had been done remotely, we saw our vision unfold in real-time along with our guests – the first time they saw the ceremony and reception sites was our first time as well, and they took my breath away!  I had spent countless hours pouring through Pinterest boards, gathering ideas and examples for my vendors across the border.  We knew we wanted an elegant yet simple feel, with a touch of Mexican fun thrown in.  With the ocean and the stunning hotel as our backdrop, there was no need to overcomplicate the scenery.  The wedding coordinators and vendors absolutely stunned me with their execution on our vision – I had been nervous about things getting lost in translation but entirely unnecessarily so.  The final product was even better than we imagined, perfection every step along the way!  I teared up seeing it – everyone stepped up and did their part to make sure that our night was seamless, we couldn’t be more thankful to our team!  The night flew by but we honestly say that we had an amazing time – we laughed, we danced, we shared intimate moments with our guests, and celebrated being Mr. & Mrs.!

While it all went by so fast, one of my favorite moments was dancing the waltz with my Dad to Elvis’ Can’t Help Falling In Love.  He sprung it on me just a couple weeks prior that he would like to waltz for our Father-Daughter dance – I had never waltzed before in my life, so spent a couple of weeks dancing with my iPad in my living room.  We finally got to practice together live the day before the wedding and I had to remind my Dad that this was meant to be fun, not Dancing with the Stars!  It melts my heart to think back on how nervous he was when we stepped out on that dance floor the next night; for a brief moment, our roles reversed and I was the one calming and leading him through the storm.  When he finally twirled me for the last time, he breathed a sigh of relief…. Now he could finally go enjoy himself ☺.

Our advice to couples planning their wedding is to listen to your hearts – plan the wedding that YOU want as a couple, not what everyone else wants.  It’s so easy for us brides to get caught up in the details and the stress in planning such an important event that I’ve seen so many girlfriends not enjoy their experience at all.   The day goes by in a flash so take time out to enjoy each other, your guests, and take in the meaning of it all; if you’re enjoying yourselves, everyone else will too, regardless of what little details may not have worked out as perfectly as you planned!  You’re there to celebrate your love, which is the greatest gift of all!
