Everyone knows that flowers are a MUST HAVE for any wedding day. But have you considered that one of the reasons that weddings are so beautiful are because of the soft and flowing nature of flowers. We want to share some of the ways that we love to elevate our sessions and weddings with flowers! We believe that flowers really add to and elevate all types of sessions! For any engagement sessions, maternity sessions, boudoir, newborns and for all of our sessions, we absolutely and always recommend flowers!
Below, I have included some awesome examples of how flowers can elevate your sessions.
1. Bouquets & garlands & wreaths – I always recommend at least a bouquet for any bride at their engagement session or wedding. Often times it’s easy to think, maybe some with and some without, but I always think that flowers bring that extra glamour!
2. Loose flowers – One way to elevate your session is incorporating loose flowers all around. You can place them in your hair style or even around in your props, picnic, or on your table scape. One of my FAVORITE THINGS to do with lose flowers is to toss them in the air with bridesmaids. Not only is a flower toss super fun, it brings in extra smiles and wonder into any photo.
3. Flower crowns – I don’t think we have to mention how amazing flower crowns are! Flowers in your hair is always so heavenly. A flower crown is like a beautiful halo that makes any bride or flower girl look angelic and beautiful.
4. Flowers or foliage in nature – One thing that is a little more challenging to accomplish, but so beautiful if you can find the right spots to incorporate flowers or foliage in nature. All of our Sun & Sparrow photographers, including associates just love foliage in nature. We are always looking for leaves or natural flowers to place our couples into. There is something magical and romantic about natural vines that grow on walls or trees that have hanging leaves that makes our hearts sing.
In our experience, a little goes a long way. Whether you have a huge floral budget or a minimalistic budget, there are always creative ways to incorporate flowers into your sessions. Ask your photographers if they have ideas or suggestions as to how to bring flowers into your session. Sun & Sparrow does actually have small session options for florals. Tiffani loves to design wreaths and bouquets for new moms and brides-to-be.
Another option is to make a bouquet yourself. Pinterest has many options to create your own wreaths and bouquets. I often recommend bringing a few flowers from your garden or even from your local grocery store that can be incorporated into your session. A little bit goes a long way.
You can see our pinterest board for making your own bouquets HERE.
Just like finding the right photographer, finding the right florist will make your wedding day that much more special. We always recommend interviewing florists and reviewing their portfolios, just as you would a photographer. Make sure you connect with the person you will be working with and make sure that you love them. Everyone’s dream is to work with your “dream team” at your session or wedding. When choosing your florist, make sure that their vision matches you vision for your big day. Lastly, make sure that you have fun!
Every session should be fun and creative. When working with creatives, remember that they love collaborating to make your story that much more special! Let us know if you want to help bring your session to life with florals or creative fabrics, ribbons, or textures.
We are so excited about all of your upcoming sessions! Thank you for reading and thank you for being a part of our hearts!

The rest of our wedding can only be described as a magical blur! Although we spent a lot of time and energy painstakingly picking out ivory linens, white and blush floral arrangements, signature cocktails and decadent meals for our timeless affair, we didn’t get a chance to focus on any single detail that day. The best part of our wedding reception was seeing the Cheshire cat grins on our guests’ faces, as they danced the night away and knew they were part of the most special night of our lives.
Our advice for engaged couples is simple: You prepare for how you think you should feel during your wedding, but how you anticipate feeling is nowhere close to the overwhelming happiness you’ll experience as your wedding is actually happening (or recreating those feelings afterward while you look at your pictures). Stay in the moment, and take my Nana’s words to heart: don’t sweat the small stuff—it’s all small stuff.

Thank you Della! You are so sweet. So appreciated!
Such an honor to work on this wedding and what a fabulous job you did documenting it! Let me know if it’s possible to get some high resolution flower photos and I’d be happy to feature them with your photo credit . I’m in the process of putting together a new website and we now have a brand new cooperative workspace called The Wedding Hub.
I look forward to hearing from you and working together again,

FROM THE BRIDE // I was actually surprised at how calm and aware I was. When I saw Robert for our first look, I thought it was so funny that he looked more nervous than me! I was super blessed to have a great wedding coordinator, my mom, my maid of honor and my bridesmaids (and bridesmen) who took care of me and made sure I had nothing to worry about. Robert and I loved that so many of our friends and family could be there, especially since a lot of them are from out of town. We can’t imagine a better day.
One thing that I remember best was our first dance. I absolutely loved that moment of pure bliss. All of the stress of the wedding had completely melted away and it was just us for that moment. I sigh just thinking about how special it was. Robert says that our first look did the same for him… But I beg to differ. 🙂
When considering my wedding day, I wanted all of my decor to have a whimsical and woodland feel. I’m from New Jersey originally, where there are lots and lots of trees. When I showed some Californians my hometown on Google Earth, they said, “you lived in a FOREST!!” I would have never called it that myself, but I guess that explains why I like trees! I guess that’s what I loved about this venue – all the greenery and the way it plays with the light. Robert and I also got to know each other in the beginning while hiking and biking in a lot of Orange County’s parks, so the park scene was very meaningful to us in that way.
If I could offer brides one bit of advice, I would love to offer one thing, definitely go with your gut, and stick with it. Don’t go on Pinterest late at night. And make sure you carve out time for just you and your new husband on the Big Day! We are so thankful for our first look and our private limo ride!
