From the Bride

Early in our planning, we decided that we wanted to have a SaddleRock Ranch wedding at the vineyard. The morning of the wedding started bright and early, and from the beginning the day was full of excitement and joy. We had planned our wedding for nearly two years! When our wedding day finally came, everything felt so unreal, like a magical fairytale was unfolding. It was an amazing feeling knowing that our family and friends, many of whom had traveled far, had all come together to support us for our next chapter in life.

Remembering Special Moments

We decided to have our “first look” along a long corridor at our AirBnb. During our moment, both of us felt much anticipation. Walking down the long corridor to reach my husband to be was surreal!!! When I finally saw him for the “first time”, I was overwhelmed with emotion. I’m not someone who usually cries, but I definitely let out tears of joy in that moment.

One of my favorite moments of our day was exchanging our vows. I remember it vividly. Chris and I decided to each write our own personalized vows. Being at the altar is a very intimate place to be and we wanted our vows to reflect that. Even being in front of family and friends, in that moment, it still felt like we were the only ones there.

Our wedding day was an absolutely magical fairytale. Every moment was stunning. We loved SaddleRock Ranch wedding at the vineyard because it was entirely outdoors. The ceremony and reception sat on top of a hill overlooking surrounding rolling vineyard hills. Everything collectively perfectly fit the romantic, whimsical feel we were going for. Much of our decor revolved around a blush-to-cabernet ombre color scheme, including the bridesmaids dresses, table settings, flowers centerpieces. We added small elements of gold and marble to add a modern touch. Despite the day flying by, we were able to enjoy every moment of it and wouldn’t change a thing.

From the Photographers

When Chris and Alice first spoke with us about their wedding day, I knew their wedding would be dreamy. We absolutely loved their chic whimsical style that reflected their personality through the entire day. When they mentioned they wanted a SaddleRock Ranch wedding at the vineyard my heart leapt! Before their day, I had not photographed at this particular venue. I knew that this day would be full of wonder and beauty.

Through our planning process, Alice and I discussed colors, styling, florals as well as her favorite locations at SaddleRock. We made a plan to travel throughout the entire ranch to capture some of her dream shots. I’m so glad that we planned to have extra time for photos, all throughout the day. We were able to photograph in the valleys, at the top of the mountains, at the door that leads to nowhere, and so many more locations. In my opinion, being able to help both Chris & Alice achieve their wedding day vision made our jobs a success. When we can champion a client’s heart into their photos, I believe that we have done our jobs well.

FROM THE BRIDE // We got married in Los Olivos, CA, a section of California Wine Country that we chose for its outdoor beauty. And of course, the week of our wedding, there was a record breaking heat wave and we were terrified in the days leading up to the wedding that it would be too hot to have our outdoor ceremony. We planned to have fans, umbrellas, ice water- anything to keep people cool. The morning of the wedding we looked at the weather and guess what… RAIN! In the middle of the heat wave! And it was scheduled to start raining at the exact moment that our ceremony was set to begin. Up until that point Jeremy and I were both pretty pleased with ourselves for being a very chill bride and groom. That morning, not so much. We thought about moving everything inside, but decided instead to risk it. We knew that everyone was up there to have fun, and a little rain wouldn’t get in the way of that. What I remember most about our wedding day was the laughter. We laughed at the weather, at each other, at the absurdity of spending months planning a wedding outside only to be foiled by nature. We had so much fun that day. All the pressure was off. It was cooler outside, and the rain freshened up the landscape, made everything breathe. And when the ceremony began, the skies cleared, the sun came out and it was perfect. Jeremy and I had exactly what we wanted: a relaxed, funny, beautiful evening with all of our friends, amazing food, wine, music, full of love and support. When the sun set the band came out, everyone got on the dance floor and danced all night. Our friends danced with our parents friends, we danced with everyone. There was a single moment where the floor wasn’t filled. Big fires were lit in these awesome cauldrons and all our nieces and nephews got covered in chocolate while making s’mores. The moon was huge, heavy and butter yellow and it didn’t rain once after the ceremony. We had pies instead of cake- cherry, key lime, and pecan and between the sugar and the dancing (and alcohol) there was a lot of joy all around.

There were so many special moments! Our flowers were done by my good friend and former roommate. She started the business when we were living together in LA, at the same time that Jeremy and I started dating, and since then it has BLOOMED. It was so special to have her practice her craft at the wedding. It felt like years in the making for both of us. My uncle gave a speech that had the entire room in tears. When I was three I gave him a painting (if you can call it that- it’s very abstract) and I told him that he could give it back to me when I got married. He brought the painting to the wedding and returned it to me. There were many other moments. We both had so many friends at the wedding that we have known since we were little. It was incredible to have everyone in the same place, decades of history, all gathered for a weekend. And our parents dancing… that was the best part for both of us.

When we found Mattei’s Tavern we knew we didn’t have to worry too much about decor. The place is a dream. It’s rustic and elegant at the same time, with beautiful lighting and really cool interiors. Mattei’s was the key to the look. We really didn’t have to do much. So we decided that what we cared about most were the food, the booze, and the music and we put most of our energy into those. I think we nailed all three. I trusted Hope, from Pigsty florals, completely, and she did amazing work with our florals, understated and classic. Our wedding planner also seemed to read our minds, and completely understood the feel we wanted without us having to go into detail. Neither Jeremy nor I like the spotlight, and I think our wedding style reflected that. My dress was very simple and his suit was classic. We let our groomsmen and bridesmaids pick their own suits/dresses, because we wanted them to be comfortable and happy. All we said was we wanted shades of blue. It was all mismatched but it worked out!

Prioritize! There are so many details that go into a wedding, and so many of them can’t be controlled on the day. Pick your battles! We spent a huge part of our budget on music, because that’s what we cared about most, and we were happy we did.

Dreamy Garden Wedding at Los Willows Wedding Estate // Jeremy & Sarah Jane

Dreamy Garden Wedding at Los Willows Wedding Estate // Jeremy & Sarah-Jane @ 2019 Sun & Sparrow // LA County Wedding Photographers

Describe your how you felt on your wedding morning, all the anticipation and the love. What were you most looking forward to in the beginning of your day.

The morning of our wedding was filled with anxious anticipation, excitement, love and so much joy all at once. Jeremy, his brothers and cousin Adam went for a quick round of golf and felt a lot of excitement as he thought about this day was finally it! It’s the day we’ve planned and talked about for months on end. Sarah and her bridesmaids spent the morning getting ready, drinking mimosas and coffee and just talking about how surreal it feels for this day to actually be here. Both of us were most looking forward to seeing each other and we both had butterflies just thinking about the moment when we finally did.

Did you have a ‘first look’ or a ‘walk down the aisle’ moment? How did you feel when you saw your significant other for the first time?
When Jeremy saw Sarah going down the aisle, he felt an overwhelming amount of emotions that brought him to tears and he was just absolutely bursting with love . He felt like the luckiest man in the world to be marrying  such a beautiful person inside and out. In that moment, he knew that there will never be a decision in life that he’ll be more sure of than marrying this girl. As cliche as it sounds, it was and will be one of those few precious moments in life that he will never forget.
It’s hard for Sarah to put in words how she felt walking down the aisle because everything about it felt so dreamlike that its difficult to describe the beauty of the sunlight peaking through the trees in the meadow and the smiling faces of all the friends and family surrounding them on that day. Once she was done taking it all in, she locked eyes with Jeremy up the altar who soon after wiped away tears from his eyes. . As she got closer, she felt her heart skip a beat and realize how grateful and blessed she is to have someone to love and adore forever.
What was your favorite moment/story from your wedding day?
Our favorite memory from our wedding day would probably be the ceremony where we got to share our love for each other in front of all our family and friends and the moments in between where we stood at the end of the altar, holding hands and knowing that soon after this we’ll have the rest of forever to live happily ever after. We also really cherish the moment when our photographer stepped away to just give us some time to be alone in the meadow after the ceremony and family photos were done. People always tell you to pause and look around to see and take a mental picture of small moments during your wedding day because it goes by so fast and that was one that we both will never forget because it gave us a chance to be alone even just for a few minutes to look at each other and soak it all in.
How did your day most feel like a fairytale?
Our day felt most like a fairytale because we were just surrounded with so much love by all of the most important people in our lives. It felt fantastical to know that this may be the only time we will ever have all these people in one place all together like this and they all came to celebrate our us and our love. It was such a happy day and it went as smoothly and perfectly as we could have possibly hoped for.
