I met Raymund through my dad. Raymund’s dad was working for my dad’s company at the time and came over for a Bbq for my sisters birthday. At that time I was in a relationship but my parents didn’t approve of him. It was also an unhealthy relationship. After that first meeting Ray was suppose to go back to the Philippines and go to college there, but he ended up staying here to help his dad. He started working part time for my dad’s company and within that process, he asked my dad for my phone number and my dad gave it to him. My dad called me right away and told me to answer my phone when someone calls. That night, he called and we started talking and getting to know each other. After a few weeks of just talking on the phone and texting, my family and I went on vacation for a month. While I was away, he still found ways to keep in contact with me via email, text message and myspace (LOL). During the time that I was on vacation with my family, I was already single. My ex-boyfriend and I had already broken up before I left. When I came back from my vacation with my family, we went out our first date. Ever since then we have been inseparable. We went to college and took almost the same classes together. We’ve had our shares of ups and downs but at the end of the day, I would never change anything in past that we have been through, because those are the reasons why our love and respect for one another will never be broken. We have now been together for 10 years and finally, we both decided that we are ready to take the step. He first asked for my parents blessing and as soon as he got the approval, our secret engagement has now become official. I was able to wear my ring and tell everyone about it and our wedding plans.
FROM THE BRIDE //
Thomas and I started off as roommates. The first day we met, there was a great level of comfort that we both instantly felt; as if we had already known each other for years. During the first year of us living together, we got to know one another very well; each other’s routines, interests, likes, dislikes, and of course, bad habits. There was definitely a strong and genuine friendship that had developed. At that time, it was nothing more; I was dating someone else and Thomas was beyond content with the bachelor-life.
It was at the tail-end of our first year of living together that things took a turn. One night, after coming home from Christmas shopping, Thomas asked if we could talk. He looked nervous; as his arms were crossed, his hands started to shake. I was a bit concerned. It was then that he asked me the one question that I never thought he would ask; “How would you feel about going on a date with me?” It was completely unexpected. It took me a little while to realize what had just happened. I eventually came to find out that Thomas discovered his feelings towards me during a boy’s surfing trip to Costa Rica. “I was thinking of you and I missed you,” he said. (Admittedly– there was always a part of me that would think about our compatibility.) Three years later (December 2014), he proposed on Christmas day; just around the time that he first asked me out on a first date. As anyone would imagine, it was a Christmas that I will always cherish.
