Marissa & Kyle got married on a romantic winter day at Serendipity Garden Weddings in Oak Glen. We were so excited to photograph a wedding at such a gorgeous fairytale venue, with a beautiful couple, inside and out.

I spent a lot of time in Oak Glen as a child. I have vivid memories of holidays spent at my aunt and uncle’s house. They have a beautiful home nestled in the mountains there where we spent many Thanksgiving days. My cousins and I would jump on the trampoline for hours, trying to fly as high as the tree tops!
One of my very first memories of doing a photo session was in Oak Glen with two of my cousins. We went to the El Dorado hiking trail and took photos of the two girls in white dresses, nestled in the golden grass with mountains in the background.
Oak Glen has always been a place where I wanted to photograph. So when I discovered a gorgeous wedding venue in Oak Glen I knew that I just had to photograph weddings there. though it is in Southern California, it is almost like being in the Pacific Northwest. With its mountainscapes and tall evergreen trees, Oak Glen features seasons, hills, hiking trails, and waterfalls, along with a more relaxed vibe that takes me away from the hustle and bustle of LA.
Come with me on the fairytale journey that was photographing Marissa & Kyle’s Serendipity Garden Wedding!

The Couple: Marissa & Kyle
Marissa & Kyle were a dream to work with.
Marissa is incredibly good at styling. She is great at knowing how to decorate and style spaces. All of the items that she chose fit perfectly into her wedding vision. She was going for an old-world feel with gold embellishments, calligraphy, and writing with torn-edged paper to give it that extra luxurious feeling. She was so kind to everyone around her. She had to deal with rain and ice on the wedding day and change her plans but took everything with poise and consideration for the people around her, finding appropriate and beautiful ways to release her feelings about it. She always brought joy to the space.
Kyle was a very caring person. He wore his heart on his sleeve for Marissa. He was very flexible with the day and didn’t seem to be worried about how things went, he just wanted to be present, enjoying the moment with his groomsmen and family, and was very supportive, carefully picking his spots to make the most of his efforts.
I am so excited for this couple to enjoy their lives together. Their wedding was a gem, and their marriage is a gift.
The Venue: Serendipity Gardens in Oak Glen
Serendipity Gardens Weddings is a premier wedding venue in the mountains of Oak Glen. You might recognize Oak Glen from their famous apple-picking season from August to November. People come from all over the southland to enjoy the time-honored tradition of picking fresh apples in Oak Glen, and even making cider from them! Serendipity Garden Weddings owes its beauty to the magnificent place where it is located, and we could not be more in love with its environment.
The venue is a very scenic and luxurious venue with multiple spaces that overlook a valley so you can see the mountains and the valley, and the sun sets right through that jaw-dropping view. Serendipity has lots of pathways that go through white rose bushes along with a pond with a white rowboat in it. It also features a pathway with arching vines and chandeliers. It is a fairytale wedding venue through and through!
The Wedding Day
We started at a mansion in Cherry Valley called Khyra Beaucrest Ranch. This was a beautiful mansion with a French style. Luxurious with wall moldings and chandeliers, this space features vintage furniture, high ceilings, and lots of windows. It is the perfect space for an old-world wedding. My favorite space here was the main bedroom, featuring a canopy bed with pillars and chiffon drapery that made the room feel light, airy, and whimsical. One of my favorite shots of the day features the bridesmaids in front of rustic wood doors with lion heads on them.
When we were doing the photos in front of the door it was pouring rain and the members of the bridal party toughed it out. I was standing in the rain with rain covers on my camera equipment and a heavy rain jacket, but we were able to create some of the most special photographs during that time. It just goes to show that you don’t need things to be “perfect” to have the best day ever!
After getting ready at the ranch, we traveled to Serendipity to finish a few bridal party photos, fighting the rain the whole time but capturing whimsey and magic all the same. Though they had to get married inside the barn, they didn’t hold back on any of their joy. As the clouds parted and the rain stopped, we were able to capture more romantic imagery outside with the mountainscape. The low-lying clouds created some dramatic and beautiful moments for the couple. It was so nice that we were able to capture those outdoor spaces that they fell in love with when they first booked their venue.
