Interview With The Bride & Groom

FROM THE BRIDE // Our wedding turned out to be a really fun party! Ryan and I were really excited to hear how much fun everyone had and it was so great to watch everyone hang out throughout the wedding weekend. All of these different people from different places, coming together to celebrate our union. It was pretty amazing.

I was inspired by a lot of weddings I had seen online on sites like Green Wedding Shoes and Style Me Pretty and I followed a lot of Australian designers/photographers/stylists on Instagram. I found I was really drawn to the aesthetic of Australian weddings. They often have a very natural, organic, and bohemian look to them. I really wanted a “bohemian glam” vibe and I wanted it to feel like a wedding without being “wedding”.

One of the most memorable moments for me was dancing with my father to “In My Life”. We’re both big Beatles fans and he started singing the lyrics before choking up and he was holding me so tight. It was such an emotional moment with my father.

Ryan: I’ll never forget my reaction when seeing Christina for the first time in her wedding dress.  Time stopped and all I could see was Christina.  I’ve never been in a “moment” more that at that time.  It was an amazing feeling and even just thinking about it, makes me emotional.  She was beautiful and it’s something I’ll cherish forever.

Photography was important to us because we didn’t want our photos to look too posed or corny and we both have an aversion to anything that seems phony or cliche. When we decided on our venue, The Historic Cree Estate,  I was looking at real weddings that had taken place there and I noticed that I kept being drawn to the photos by Sun and Sparrow. The photography was natural and romantic, it felt fresh and dynamic without being overly trendy. It feels classic and relaxed. Tiffani was so awesome at making up feel like rock stars even though we are both super awkward in front of the camera.

My advice to brides planning right now would be to pick three things that are most important to you and your fiance for your wedding and make those a priority. Stick to that vision of what is most important and everything else will fall into place.

The best part about being married is not having to plan a wedding! Seriously though, planning a wedding with a groom that was as invested as Ryan was made for a really great bonding experience. We were both in this together, just like we’re in this journey through life together.

Ryan: Some people say being married is no different from before.  It’s certainly different for me.  I can’t put my finger on it and really explain it though.  I feel different in the best way possible.  Our bond is stronger.  Not because the State of California recognizes it, but because of the entire experience from planning, to getting married, to now.  I can’t tell you a single best part of being married because I’m enjoying the whole experience.

Went out looking for the most fairytale location I could find... Did I find it? I will let you decide.

I was at a BVD appt when I met the receptionist there. Helen was the sweetest, most fun, and most personable receptionist who made me feel so comfortable and joyful to be at one of the most benign places... the eye doctor. She made the place fun and festive... so when she mentioned she was engaged, I had to throw my work at her. She immediately felt connected to Sun and Sparrow as much as I felt connected to her, and it was a match made in.... wonderland!

This girl is a fairytale dream... and this might be my most fairytale session yet.

When C&D told me that their venue had a catastrophe and they had to completely change their plans, we all stood stunned.

But not too long after they shared the news, they had a new plan. The wedding downsized and took to the road to Cannon Beach, the place where they took their engagement pictures (remember them from last year?!) And the place where they have made so many memories.

First stop was two beach houses, then to Hug Point. Next, we hit the iconic Cannon Beach with haystack rock in the distance, followed by a relaxed park reception. And to top it off, they ended at Capricorn Pub, a place where they could fully unleash and be their fullest selves with karaoke, pool, and games with their closest people.

Though it wasn't the day they originally planned, it turned out to be completely stunning... and as C&D said, "maybe it wasn't the plan, but maybe it was meant to be this way all along."

The way they managed to shift, to ride with the twists and turns, and to enjoy each moment fully... they truly took my breath away. AND I have to say, seeing them around their entourage, their hype crew, it made complete sense to me how they found the truest form of joy all day. This group of people amazed me at every stop and showed up for every moment.

It was the biggest honor to photograph this wedding and see something so unique and so full of life. I will never forget this day.
