FROM THE BRIDE // Well it all started at a school, AJ and I had both recently started working at a charter school and didn’t know anybody during orientation so naturally, we ended up talking to one another to avoid being by ourselves. One thing AJ remembers from our first encounter is thinking, “who is this girl?” because he thought I was too overdressed (compared to the other teachers, including himself). Little did we both know that we would be working with each other very closely since AJ would be my direct supervisor! Though we worked for many months together we started to know one another better after realizing that we both were interested in the same music genre (90’s grunge music), although AJ could have sworn that I listened to rap and hip-hop (no, thanks). On our first date, AJ asked me out to the movies but didn’t actually mention that it was a date. So because I didn’t want to misinterpret his intentions I took it as if we were merely two friends going to the movies together. It wasn’t until the end of our date that he briefly mentioned to me that we were on one, I suppose I should have known based on a few things I observed that night. For instance, I will always remember from that night AJ’s nervous hand ticks, playing a Pearl Jam playlist after discovering that it is my favorite band, and getting out of the car to open the door for me (which this I thought was very strange, haha). To this day, AJ will still open the car door for me! This is one of the many things I love about AJ. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about my fiance and to see what an amazing husband he will be. Though I can list many amazing things that I love about AJ I’ll list seven main things: 1. he is God loving and Fearing, 2. he is patient and empathetic, 3. he loves hiking and traveling with me to National Parks, 4. he can speak Spanish and values our families (which is big in my family), 5. he has a such a great sense of humor (sometimes he will make a joke when it isn’t appropriate), 6. he listens to everything that I have to say, and 7. he is extremely supportive! Number six played a huge role in AJ’s proposal plan. Since we began dating, I always mentioned to AJ that one of my biggest dreams was to travel to Alaska and just be in the wild to observe God’s beautiful creation. I mentioned to him how when I was graduating high school I was even considering going to college in Alaska. Never in a million years did I imagine traveling to Alaska this early in my life, but AJ made it happen. On December 2017 AJ and I traveled to Alaska for a mini winter trip. I had no idea that AJ was planning to propose to me, but he had everything planned out. On the last day of our trip, AJ and I went to Alyeska Ski Resort (such a breathtaking place) where we traveled about 3,000 ft into the air on an aerial tram to watch the sunset. There on that perfect mountain peak, AJ asked me to marry him! Alaska was an amazing trip, but my fiance was even more amazing for making it all happen. We are so excited and looking forward to our wedding day where we can share with those we cherish the most and experience the joy of coming together as one!
Elegant Estate wedding at the Ebell of Los Angeles // ©2018 Sun & Sparrow Los Angeles wedding photographers
Our favorite memories of the wedding definitely revolved around our family and friends. From the adrenaline rush of working our way down the aisle through a sea of excited onlooking faces, to having a line of eager guests wanting to take pictures with us, all the way to the dancing celebration at our reception, it was a blast getting to take in the momentous day in the presence of our loved ones as they made us feel like rock-stars! We loved our elegant estate wedding at the Ebell of Los Angeles.
We took inspiration for wedding décor and florals from the venue itself, The Ebell of Los Angeles. The venue is a beautiful historic building and we really felt that keeping it classic, soft, and romantic would be the way to go. We did incorporate a few touches along the way to make it more personal and “us”, including adding Cogsworth and Lumiere to adorn our sweetheart table, as we are Disney fans, and the “novio” and “novia” signs for our chairs.
FROM THE GROOM // I was initially very opposed to having a first look, mostly because I wanted to stick to tradition. After several nights of “sleeping on it” we decided to partake in a first look, and it was probably one of the best decisions we could have made. Doing so allowed us to take so many pictures! Not only were we able to take advantage of the natural lighting but we also had a lot of shots/poses that we probably wouldn’t have had if we chose not to have a first look.

Fairytale wedding in Malibu // ©2018 Sun & Sparrow Malibu wedding photographer
FROM THE BRIDE (Jess) & THE GROOM (Glenn) :
Jess – I was beyond excited the morning of the wedding! Our long-awaited day for our fairytale wedding in Malibu was HERE … after a two year engagement! We had been planning and thinking about it for so long that I couldn’t believe it was actually time. We actually had breakfast together at Calamigos Ranch and Glenn basically had to force me to eat because I was so excited that I had no appetite! As soon as my bridesmaids started showing up for the day, it hit me that it was finally happening, this was OUR day! I felt so surrounded by love and friendship while getting ready with the girls. Seeing all the wedding details, my bouquet, my dress, jewelry, opening my gifts from Glenn – I could not stop thinking about how in just a couple short hours, we would be saying our vows in front of our friends and families, and I would be MARRIED to my soulmate!
Glenn – The morning of the wedding was a combination of excitement, anticipation, and a LOT of waiting. The girls started at 8am and the guys didn’t have anything to do until 12:30pm. Those may have been longest 4.5 hours of my life. I spent the time relaxing with family and friends, drinking coffee, and debating whether to do my vows from memory or not. After two years of waiting and planning, we were both so excited to finally say I do and celebrate with everyone. I was personally most excited to get to the first look and see my beautiful bride. I knew that we would both be anxious for the rest of the day, but from then on we would be by each other’s side through the whole event.
Did you have a ‘first look’ or a ‘walk down the aisle’ moment? How did you feel when you saw your significant other for the first time?
Jess – We decided to do a first look before our ceremony! I was a bundle of emotions on the walk over from the bungalow I’d gotten ready in to where Glenn was waiting for me. As soon as I saw him standing on the bridge, with his back to me, I started tearing up. We had been waiting for so long for this moment and I had been so excited for MONTHS for him to see me in my dress, and the moment was FINALLY here. It took all I had to keep from crying before I stepped up and took his hand in mine, and from that second on, neither of us could contain our tears of joy and disbelief that our Big Day was finally happening.
Glenn – After spending the morning relaxing, the day immediately turned into a whirlwind of photos, interviews, whiskey, one lock out, and some lost items. Before I knew it, I was whisked away from my groomsmen for the first look. And then I waited what felt like 30 minutes on the bridge. I couldn’t wait to see Jess, but wasn’t exactly sure how personal the moment would feel with five different lenses pointed at me. But, as soon as she walked up behind me and touched my hand, everyone else melted away. It was just the two of us and we’d be married in two hours!
What was your favorite moment/story from your wedding day?
Jess & Glenn – This is a hard question! Our whole day was filled with incredible, magical, perfect moments but I think my ABSOLUTE favorite moment from our wedding day was our first dance. We had been planning it for months and had secretly been taking dance lessons the past month and a half with an incredible teacher we found in Dallas! We wanted a fun dance that meant a lot to us so we had mixed two of “our” songs together – Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros mixed with Alive (Zedd Remix) by Empire of the Sun and Zedd – for our first dance. It was SO fun to finally be performing what we had worked so hard on and for it to go so well, even with our nerves and our “we just got married!” adrenaline.
How did your day most feel like a fairytale wedding?
Jess & Glenn – Every moment just felt so magical. Our day truly was a dream come true. From putting on my gorgeous wedding dress to seeing Glenn during our first look all the way to the last dance of the night, I felt like a true princess marrying her prince. Saying our vows in front of a gorgeous waterfall, surrounded by friendship and love from all sides, flowers and hops adorning the arch above us, the setting and the vibes throughout the entire day just felt like a fairytale.
