James & Crystal // June Lake Mountain wedding

FROM THE BRIDE //

James and I were just looking to have a fun day to share with our family & friends. Since we both enjoy the outdoors, a rustic wedding seemed like the way to go.
I would have to say that our favorite and most memorable part would have to be the chairlift ride up the mountain for all our guests and the breath taking views from all angles of our venue site.

Photography was important to us because it is the only way to capture these once in a life time memories and for us to be able to share these memories with our future children. We chose Sun & Sparrow because you girls are awesome and fun and our friends! I wouldn’t have had it any other way because it was easy to let loose and be ourselves in front of people we already knew. Not to mention seeing all the other weddings and events they have been a part of were spectacular!!!

Oh man, DIY… To complete our rustic theme, mason jars were our main project. My mom and I diligently worked on the center piece vases by wrapping 40+ mason jars with burlap followed by a slightly narrower piece of lace and then topped it off with tying a piece or coral cord and a “love” charm around the mouth of the jar. Then we moved on to the small jelly jars that we wrapped with a burlap ribbon and completed it with a small white ribbon flower. For our escort cards and the display, I ordered business cards from the company that made our invitations so that we could stick with the theme of that and then one of my bridesmaids helped out by hand writing all our guest names and their table assignments. The display, I found a large clearance frame at the local craft store, strung twine across and pinned up each card with a small mini-clothespin. And, I believe that is it for the DIY, at least the big stuff!

For those ladies that are planning a wedding right now, make sure to do you and your fiance… no one else! Friends and family will have their opinion, but this day is about the 2 of you and no one else!!! Also, do everything in your power to have fun with it. You will always come across speed bumps that will try to cause stress, but remember to stay calm and work through it. On your wedding day, be open to the things that will inevitably go wrong, and when something does go wrong, embrace it and laugh!!!
The awesome thing about being married is knowing that I am officially tied to the man that I love!!!

Scott & Candace // Apple Creek Ranch Rustic Wedding Photographer

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR WEDDING? // Chic, Cozy and a vintage feel. We also really wanted an intimate wedding. The people closest to us!

WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE/FAVORITE PART ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DAY? // We both agree- THE CEREMONY! For me it felt like time stood still for Scott and I. I remember be so wrapped up into him, I truly didn’t notice anyone else! For Him- He loved the very first part of my vows. “I absolutely Love you”. I delivered it with a laughter and warmth and he says he knew It was the most organic thing I have ever said to him.

WHY WAS PHOTOGRAPHY IMPORTANT TO YOU? // For me Capturing this moment in a way that told a story was super important. I have also seen the same wedding photos over and over so I wanted something truly artistic. Scott felt the same way. He is actually a pretty great photographer himself (he dabbled in photography in college).

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SUN & SPARROW?  //  Sun and Sparrow captured me with their magical photography and sincere hearts!

DID YOU DO ANY DIY PROJECTS? IF SO, WHAT? // Yes, I made all of my chalkboards, bridesmaids gifts and collected all of my own glassware. I purchased some Vintage pieces but also used a lot of recycled glass from my work and home.

WHAT WAS YOUR SOMETHING OLD, NEW, BORROWED, BLUE? // OLD– My Pearl Earrings I got from my Bridesmaid Brooke’s Wedding this Summer. It was my Bridesmaids Gift and I loved wearing them on my wedding day and I also rocked a sparkle jacket I wore on our first NYE in LA. NEW– My Dress, Veil and after party outfit. BORROWED– My Nana’s Gloves she wore on her wedding day and I Headband I got from a friend. BLUE– I wore Blue panties and blue heels! Haha =)

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR BRIDES WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PLANNING PROCESS? // A TON- but really everyone has their own journey. There were things I would say don’t spend your money on but those things might be important to someone else. So ROCK your wedding!  Ok, One thing- DONT RENT THOSE HORRIBLE Tux’s – It was cheaper to buy and tailor a suit then to rent a tux or suit that didn’t really fit. Brides always have top pick when it comes to their big day and so should your man. Let him wear what he feels sexy in!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF BEING MARRIED NOW?  //   Being Married and he Sex. =) Maybe TMI but its the truth.

Jason & Merry // Romantic & Rainy engagement in Culver City

How We Met  //  The first time Jason and Merry met was early September 2010 through their awesome friend Sherry Pham. Merry knew Sherry from pharmacy school (they were in the same fraternity) and most recently had gotten closer through work at Kaiser Woodland Hills. Sherry and Jason were high school homies.  After work on one Friday night, Sherry invited Merry out to go kick it to celebrate her friend’s birthday. They went to grab dinner with some of Sherry’s friends (Jason was in that group) first at Honey Kettle Fried Chicken in Culver City. When Merry first saw Jason, she admits she throught he was cute, but didn’t think much more into it. Little did Jason know, his dreams were very soon going to come true.  The Honey Kettle Fried Chicken group (Sherry, Merry, Pearl, Andy, and Jason) headed to Rush Street for the birthday bash, where Jason and Merry started talking more and totally clicked. =) The spark ignited, shortly after they started dating and became official, and the rest is history. Fast forward to 3+ years later, Jason and Merry are each other’s true love, best friend, and soon to be partner for life. =)

Our proposal  //  On September 13, 2013, Jason and Merry headed to Santa Barbara for a weekend getaway to celebrate their 3-year anniversary. Their actual anniversary date was on September 10. They arrived in Santa Barbara on Friday night and decided to check out the night scene of Santa Barbara. When they got back to their hotel, which was a beach front hotel, it was already past midnight. Jason was very insistent that they should go take a stroll on the beach, especially since it was a nice night. They started walking down the beach, arm around one another, with the waves crashing in the background. Then all of a sudden, Jason just drops down on one knee, with no romantic speel, and pops the question: “Babz (our nickname for each other), will you marry me?” Merry was in pure shock and didn’t know what was going on and kept repeating: “Wait, what are you doing? What is going on?” And then once Merry registered what was going on, of course, she started tearing and said “Yes, of course!” The rest of their trip in Santa Barbara entailed a full day with a wine tasting tour, dinner at Bouchon, and just the pure enjoyment of being a newly engaged couple. It was a very momentous and happy occasion that they will always remember…September 14, 2013…the day Jason and Merry got engaged! =)
