Los Angeles Arboretum enchanted engagement // Chris & Crystal

From the groom:  I never imagined that any of my teenage dreams would come true, let alone my dream of marrying my high school sweetheart. From the moment I laid my eyes on her, I knew she would be the one that would forever change my life. And, if I might add, she has changed my life for the better. For many years Crystal and I had dreamed about the idea of marriage. We planned about our future home with children and how we would grow old together. Unfortunately, in the midst of our dreams, we had news that would change our lives forever. When we heard the diagnosis that Crystal had breast cancer at such a young age, our dreams were put on hold to fight for her life. We battled and had an up and down fight, but Crystal finally won! After 8 years of loving my girl, through all the pain, and a hard fight with breast cancer, I knew it was finally time to take hold of our dreams of marriage and a family that we had put aside.

My plan to propose was simple, but stealthy. I contacted her aunt and asked if she would  take us out to a field and take photos. I posed to Crystal that her aunt just wanted to “try out her new camera.” But in reality, I wanted to have the moment when I get down on one knee and ask Crystal to be my wife.  The day we went out, it was a beautiful spring day with the flowers for miles. Now, I do want to mention that I had the whole event planned out, but none of the plan happened. Ten minutes into our “photo shoot” I couldn’t contain my composure as my nerves had been getting to me.  Before it was time, I dropped down to one knee and the question had come out, “Will you marry me?” To my surprise, she (and I) was absolutely shocked! She had no clue that I would pop the question! But without a beat, she answered, “Yes!”  My heart pumped at one million beats per minute and everything was blurred. I couldn’t come back to my senses and even put the ring on her finger. I would almost say I was in shock, but to more accurately put it, I was in complete awe. The day and my proposal could not have been more perfect. I can’t wait for the day to come, to give our vows before our family and friends and officially become Husband and Wife.

Alice & Eddie // Fairytale engagement at the LA Arboretum

FROM THE GROOM // Alice and I got engaged on December 6th, 2014. Up until that point, 2014 had been a difficult year for us. Alice’s Mom had passed on that Oct. leaving us devastated. Understandably, Alice was dealing with a lot during that time.
Two weeks prior to Dec. 6th, I had mentioned to Alice that I wanted to take her to Vista Hermosa park to take some pictures with the DSLR camera that she had bought me. The park has a bench that sits on top of a hill overlooking the LA skyline. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the ‘spot’. I told Alice that we could go grab some food in Downtown LA after and make a date of it. She agreed and the plan was in motion.
So Dec 6. finally arrives and I wake up feeling extremely nervous. Alice comes up to me and says, ‘Can we not go today? I just want to stay home’. My immediate reaction was ‘ARE YOU SERIOUS???’. She later gave in as she saw how annoyed I was getting.
We finally head out to to the park. On the drive there, I was texting with my little brother since he was already at the park and was camping out at the bench so that no one takes it. We arrive at the park and I quickly throw the ring into the inside pocket of my coat.
At this point, Alice was already beginning to think that something was up. She goes over and starts looking around my camera bag and walks up behind me asking me ‘if something was going to happen today’. I gave her a huge laugh and flat out told her ‘no’ to her face. I don’t think I have ever seen her that disappointed…
Now with the sun setting, I decided it was time. I had her stand in front of the bench and I set the camera on ‘record’ so that I could capture the moment. I walked up to Alice and told her that my friend had sent me a weird video the other day. The video itself was something I put together through the help of our close friends and family. It consisted of 10-15 sec clips of our friends talking about what comes to mind when they think about us. The video ended with a clip of me letting her know that I had one more question to ask…I then got down on one knee and I asked her the most important question of my life.

Marat & Michele // An etherial wedding at the LA Arboretum

FROM THE BRIDE & GROOM //  We wanted our wedding to be truly magical and romantic and to have our wedding ceremony in a garden. With the help of our families, we discovered Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, which is a little-known, stunning 127-acre botanical garden in Arcadia. Once we settled on the Arboretum’s rose garden for our ceremony and the Pasadena Masonic Temple for our reception, our planning and decorations flowed from there.  The most memorable moment about our wedding day was saying our vows under the chuppah in the Arboretum’s rose garden. It was so peaceful and we heard birds singing above as we exchanged our vows. After knowing each other for so long, it was surreal to finally be pronounced husband and wife.

Photography was important to us because we knew that the day would fly by quickly and we would only have pictures to capture this magical moment in time. We had seen Sun and Sparrow’s work for a friend’s wedding and were extremely impressed by the team’s extraordinary talent. We could not be happier with our decision to hire Sun and Sparrow!
Our favorite part about being married is being able to wake up in each other’s arms every day and spend every day and night together!
