Fairytale Los Angeles Wedding at Vibiana // Matt & Sarah

FROM THE BRIDE

I remember waking up the morning of the wedding at 3 AM. While staring at the ceiling, I wished it was a more reasonable time to wake up.  I was already so excited for our wedding day! I had been dreaming about an Fairytale Los Angeles Wedding at the Vibiana  for so long. Dreaming about my fairytale wedding and all the special moments that would come with it. The day felt so long as we began to prepare. With hair, make up, and a bit of nervous anticipation, all of my heart was ready to see Matt.

One of my favorite moments was our first look. We opted to have our first look privately in the courtyard next to the RedBird Cafe. We wanted our moment to be just ours. I remember the moment with so much clarity. I came down the stairs from and met him in the hallway. When we saw each other in that first glance, there were butterflies in our stomachs and tears in our eyes. This moment was just like I had dreamed of. After so much time and effort put into every detail of the day, seeing Matt at our first look made everything fall into place. From that moment, the entire day flowed naturally. I instantly relaxed and was able to let my day happen.

WEDDING DAY DESIGN

I absolutely loved my wedding day decor! In creating an fairytale Los Angeles wedding at the Vibiana, I wanted our day to be classic and timeless with a bit of a whimsical element.  I wanted to bring naturally lush elements, both outside and inside. I loved the ivy that we brought in to cover the marble inside Vibiana. Because the Vibiana had once been a cathedral, there were so many beautiful architectural elements. We focused most on the designs of the flowers and mixed in a touch of metals (gold and copper) to add personality. Overall, I would definitely say the flowers and greenery absolutely made the venue shine.

If I could give one piece of advice to future brides, I would say, “slow down and enjoy every moment.” It wasn’t easy for me. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer gravity of getting married. I keep remembering that while your wedding day will be wonderful, it’s just another day–it doesn’t have to be perfect. Remember that nothing is perfect. The more you can remember to be in love with your moments with the people that you love. And that’s what it’s about! It’s about your love, your moments and you’re forever.

FROM THE BRIDE // Where to begin…? It was probably one of the most stressful yet fun & memorable day we have ever experienced. I remember the night before; I started to freak out over some last minute details before the wedding. Not being able to sleep throughout the night due to worrying if the foods were going to be picked up on time for breakfast, if my bridesmaids remembered to wake up at the crack of dawn to be beautified, if everyone remembered to arrive on time, so on and so forth. When the celebration had finally came, all the stress and worry just went away when I saw both our families and friends outside the house waiting for the groom-to-be to win me over during the tea ceremony. The wedding went by so fast, but I was happy everyone was able to make it to our wedding; it felt great to just have all of our loved ones and friends there to join us on our special day.
If I could go back to one moment in my wedding day, my favorite moment was our first dance. Those who know me, knows I CANNOT dance. The only way to get me to the dance floor is pretty much liquor courage. But that night I didn’t need any of it, all I needed was my now husband next to me dancing the night away.

FROM THE GROOM // Our favorite part about our wedding was our Star Wars details. I totally loved being able to walk with my groomsmen with their Stormtropper helmets, while I had on my Darth Vader helmet and light saber. My wife may hate star wars, but too bad…

Our favorite colors and Jan-Michael’s love for Star Wars inspired us with the planning and décor. Like most couple planning their wedding, Pinterest was our go to source of inspiration on how we wanted the wedding to be like.

Do you have any advice for brides/grooms who are currently planning their weddings?

Our advice would be to just have fun and enjoy every little moment of the planning & the day of the wedding. Yes, it is stressful and you both may agree to disagree on some things, but in the end it’s about all about you guys. On the day of the wedding, things may not go your way and that’s perfectly fine, also normal. Just go out there and put on the biggest fake smile and let it go – because at the end of the night, you don’t want your guests to remember you guys as the crazy bridezilla/groomzilla.

I would advise to enjoy the day, eat a big breakfast if you are only having an evening ceremony, in our case it was a whole day event. Keep in mind that things will happen that are not in your control and that to stay calm if not everything goes exactly on time.

Chris & Crystal // Los Angeles Fairytale engagement

Los Angeles fairytale engagement // ©2017 Sun & Sparrow Los Angeles fairytale engagement photographers

From the groom:  I never imagined that any of my teenage dreams would come true, let alone my dream of marrying my high school sweetheart. From the moment I laid my eyes on her, I knew she would be the one that would forever change my life. And, if I might add, she has changed my life for the better. For many years Crystal and I had dreamed about the idea of marriage. We planned about our future home with children and how we would grow old together. Unfortunately, in the midst of our dreams, we had news that would change our lives forever. When we heard the diagnosis that Crystal had breast cancer at such a young age, our dreams were put on hold to fight for her life. We battled and had an up and down fight, but Crystal finally won! After 8 years of loving my girl, through all the pain, and a hard fight with breast cancer, I knew it was finally time to take hold of our dreams of marriage and a family that we had put aside.

My plan to propose was simple, but stealthy. I contacted her aunt and asked if she would  take us out to a field and take photos. I posed to Crystal that her aunt just wanted to “try out her new camera.” But in reality, I wanted to have the moment when I get down on one knee and ask Crystal to be my wife.  The day we went out, it was a beautiful spring day with the flowers for miles. Now, I do want to mention that I had the whole event planned out, but none of the plan happened. Ten minutes into our “photo shoot” I couldn’t contain my composure as my nerves had been getting to me.  Before it was time, I dropped down to one knee and the question had come out, “Will you marry me?” To my surprise, she (and I) was absolutely shocked! She had no clue that I would pop the question! But without a beat, she answered, “Yes!”  My heart pumped at one million beats per minute and everything was blurred. I couldn’t come back to my senses and even put the ring on her finger. I would almost say I was in shock, but to more accurately put it, I was in complete awe. The day and my proposal could not have been more perfect. I can’t wait for the day to come, to give our vows before our family and friends and officially become Husband and Wife.

Ben & Aubrey // Romantic Mansion wedding at the Ebell of Los Angeles

FROM THE BRIDE // After a year of planning our dream wedding, it took almost a week for Ben and I to fully debrief our wedding experience together. One of his favorite recollections was just before our first look: he not only heard the click-clack of my footsteps, but also realized that he could hear his heart beating from excitement and anticipation. Those felt like the longest 20 seconds of his life, and he knew things were about to get real. I could relate: as I tapped him on his shoulder and saw his face light up, I suddenly felt a sudden wave of eagerness and joy. When the processional began, I walked toward him once again, this time as he stood beneath our lush, fragrant chuppah, before our family and friends. It might have been because of the lighting during the ceremony, but the only thing we could really focus on was each other. He took my hand as we said our vows—never without a wide, gleeful smile across our faces.

The rest of our wedding can only be described as a magical blur! Although we spent a lot of time and energy painstakingly picking out ivory linens, white and blush floral arrangements, signature cocktails and decadent meals for our timeless affair, we didn’t get a chance to focus on any single detail that day. The best part of our wedding reception was seeing the Cheshire cat grins on our guests’ faces, as they danced the night away and knew they were part of the most special night of our lives.

Our advice for engaged couples is simple: You prepare for how you think you should feel during your wedding, but how you anticipate feeling is nowhere close to the overwhelming happiness you’ll experience as your wedding is actually happening (or recreating those feelings afterward while you look at your pictures). Stay in the moment, and take my Nana’s words to heart: don’t sweat the small stuff—it’s all small stuff.

Such an honor to work on this wedding and what a fabulous job you did documenting it! Let me know if it’s possible to get some high resolution flower photos and I’d be happy to feature them with your photo credit . I’m in the process of putting together a new website and we now have a brand new cooperative workspace called The Wedding Hub.
I look forward to hearing from you and working together again,
