Chris & Monica // Romantic Palos Verdes engagement

Romantic Palos Verdes engagement // ©2016 Sun & Sparrow Palos Verdes engagement photography

Sun & Sparrow is one of the leading engagement and wedding photographers in the Los Angeles area as well as Santa Barbara and Orange County.

Christopher and Monica met in Scottsdale, Arizona at a casino one lucky Sunday afternoon and instantly became good friends. Monica who grew up overseas as the daughter of a Chef has always kept food close to her heart both in profession and pleasure, while Christopher gained his culinary chops in some of the best restaurants in Chicago. Christopher quickly became enticed by Monica’s quick wit, her vast repository of literary and pop-culture knowledge, and of course her beauty. He knew quickly that only she was for him. Monica found Christopher equally charming, a rare breed of man, a handsome old soul who poured his heart into his brilliant writing and cooking and had an unbridled passion for music. They spent many a night looking at each across from restaurant dining tables and sharing laughs in between sips of wine. They continued to grow in their friendship and passion for each other, but unfortunately, their paths would take them separate ways when Christopher left for grad school in Chicago and Monica left for Los Angeles. But the best was yet to come.

While maintaining a friendship over 3,500 miles would cause most to grow distant, for Christopher and Monica it actually made them much closer. One night while musing over their current physical separation, Christopher declared that he no longer just “wanted” to see Monica but “needed” to see her. The next day he bought the first non-stop plane ticket from Chicago to California. It was during that spontaneous weekend trip in San Diego that Monica and Christopher’s romance began to blossom and they first expressed their love for each other.

After a few more months of dating long-distance and frequent trips back-and-forth, Christopher invited Monica to Maui for Christmas. While on the island, Christopher enacted a plan to ensure that Monica and he wouldn’t have to spend much more time apart. On December 19th, 2014 after a sunny day on the white shores drinking Hawaiian beer and planning a future together, Christopher asked Monica to join him to watch the Pacific sunset. Monica was running late, as usual, but when she arrived outdoors, Christopher was just standing there patiently and smiling. Holding a glass of red wine, he extended his hand for her to come join him. As her hand reached his, “These Arms of Mine” by Otis Redding started to play from Christopher’s carefully planned playlist. A long-time favorite song of the couple Christopher drew her close and asked if he could have this dance. To the sounds of the King of Southern Soul, the smells of sweet plumeria, and a golden fiery sunset, Christopher got down on bended knee and asked Monica to be his dance partner for the rest of their life. He told her she was someone that he wanted to spend every morning and moment with, and never another day apart. Through many joyful tears and soft kisses, Monica hugged him and exclaimed “Yes!”. They both realized that although life is often carefully planned, the best things are the unexpected and unconditional things that forever change your plans.

Wilfredo & Sheena // Luxury wedding at the Mission Inn in Riverside

how she did itFROM THE BRIDE // So what inspired me regarding the decor I chose for the wedding was the venue itself. The Mission Inn is so romantic and beautiful, I wanted everything else to match that romantic theme. My dress was by the designer Berta. I fell in love with this dress because of its unique design, the beautiful lace, and all of the beads/pearls. My shoes were Jimmy Choo’s and actually pretty comfortable considering I didn’t break them in prior to the wedding. My earrings and rosary were by Maria Elena, she also makes beautiful headpieces. My husband’s navy tuxedo was by Theory, and matched perfectly with my dress and the theme of our wedding. Posh Peony did an amazing job on my florals, linen, and draping. Everything came out more beautiful than I imagined. I wanted a very soft romantic feel, so I went with cream roses with a hint of pale blush. I was so happy with Sweet Traders design and taste of our wedding cake. The design was beautiful. Again, I was going for a romantic theme so I had them add fondant lace appliqués to the top and bottom layer, along with some ribbon and rhinestones at the very bottom of the two middle layers, then had them add a few fresh flowers throughout. My DJ, Dance All Night DJ, did a wonderful job! He also did the lighting which added that romantic feel throughout the ballroom at the reception.
Wedding photographs were very important to me, and I decided on our venue based on the many photo opportunities of the beautiful decor and architecture at Mission Inn. At the end of the day, all you have are memories and photographs from your wedding day and that’s why I wanted to make sure I hired photographers/videographers that would capture that.  The most memorable part of our wedding day was the moment we first saw each other as I was walking down the isle and Wilfredo was waiting for me at the alter. That is a moment we will never forget.

amazingFROM THE GROOM //  Our wedding day was so special and spectacular to us. I loved every moment because every little bit of our day, every detail was from our hearts. We wanted a European feel to our wedding, but we also wanted to be close to home. So, we chose the Mission Inn in Riverside for several reasons. First, Alyshia  had dreamt of getting married there since she was a young girl. Being able to make that dream come true for her was amazing. Second, the venue is breathe taking and ultimately the most romantic venue you can ever visit. Third, the St. Francis Chapel is gorgeous, all of our guests were amazed at how beautiful the church was. For me, the most memorable part of our wedding day is when Alyshia walked down the aisle.  This is a moment that I will absolutely never forget.  I remember a ‘flash monsoon’ thundering down outside and I had to wait extra long to see her. But when those doors opened, I saw a beautiful silhouette  and it was hers. Just the rain and her. I will never forget that crazy storm that overtook us right in the at the start of our ceremony!! It was so awesome and spectacular. Let’s hope it brings us a lot of good luck!! Let me talk a little bit about our photographer. We chose Sun & Sparrow because we love how photography captures  those special moments in time. We love how Sun & Sparrow captures and shares every story uniquely. Tiffani, Claudia, and Vanessa, did an amazing job making us feel comfortable in front of the camera. I tend to get shy and feel awkward while taking pictures but Tiffani definitely helped make us feel natural and relaxed. I appreciated that support even more when it came to helping Alyshia feel comfortable and confident even throughout the chaos of the flash flood around us. As we exit that stage of our lives and we look back on our wedding, I would love to give some advice to brides and grooms on their special day. Just enjoy it. Enjoy and soak in every moment. Some things may not go as planned but enjoy your special day to the fullest, no matter what.
