John-Anthony & Remy // The Sepulveda House engagement

©2015 Sun & Sparrow // The Sepulveda House engagement

FROM THE BRIDE //   ” The story really all started on October 17th of last year when Anthony and I set off for our adventure in the Big Easy. It had been about a year in the making and after hearing all the good things about NOLA we were SO excited! We were looking forward to a change of scenery and exploring the fun city. We were happy to have met my beautiful cousin Morgan for a portion of the trip along with a few folks from back east and Canada. It was a fantastic group and we all got along so well. We had such a blast!

About four days in on a Tuesday evening, much like the nights prior, Anthony and I were on our way to meet Morgan and a few others from the group. We had plans to see a show with one of our new friends and later meet up with the others for some drinks. Along the way we took a little detour. Exploring the area near us, we decided to check out the Riverwalk which sits on the bank of the gorgeous Mississippi River. It was lovely.  It was then, as we were taking it all in,  just the two of us, that Anthony suprised me with a proposal. He made an awesome video/ slideshow for me that he showed on his phone and he said some really special words that I won’t forget. And yes, he did also get on a knee as he asked me to marry him, although, I’d have to say it wasn’t for long. It wasn’t long after that I said “yes, of course!” Everything about that night was absolutely perfect. There’s not much more I can say about it.

Overall, our trip was just fantastic, every bit of it. I know if we could do it all over again, we would and in a heartbeat!! New Orleans definitely lived up to it’s name. It’s magical. That place, that moment, those people, that food, the music, the art…. it’s all there. It lives with us now as a memory, one that I know Anthony and I will treasure forever.

And now we’re looking forward to our wedding this fall and all the exciting things that are in store for us after. We can’t wait to celebrate the start of this new adventure with our friends and family!

Michael & Katie // Nautical inspired Long Beach engagement

©2015 Sun & Sparrow Photographers // Nautical inspired Long Beach engagement

FROM THE GROOM // I will never forget the day or especially the look on Katie’s face when I proposed to her… Lets take a couple steps back and look at the how…see Katie’s dad is known for not being able to keep a secret. So I had to make sure to time it perfectly… when I did end up asking him … he looked up at me with his warm smile on his face, gave me a huge hug, and told me

“You are already my family and you know that, I wouldn’t have it any other way… I love you son”…. Followed by another HUGE hug.

Now time to plan… I knew exactly what day I would do it… it had come up once before to a close friend many moons ago, it was a special day for Katie and I as it marked one year after we embarked on a journey of a lifetime together… Thailand. A trip we won’t stop talking about, it was a journey filled with: the unexpected, tons of laughter, & most of all unexplored territory… A little about me, I am a huge planner … I love things to be perfect to the T. So I had the date, but the “how” was stumping me… do I include her family, do I not… I began to just over think it… then a really good friend told me “Its not about the production, its about the memory.” … then the Aha moment kicked in… I knew it wasn’t a reality to go to Thailand again… but maybe I could recreate the feeling we had while we were there.

November 11th, 2014… I can remember it like it was just yesterday… I woke up … ran to my empty old shoebox at the top of my closet just to make sure the ring was still hiding… then began the day just like any other … off to work… half way to work I got extremely nervous thinking what if she comes home early and finds it… so I drove all the way back and grabbed the ring… I had to keep it close to me. I started with talking to my friends exploring different ways to propose; one thing was in common with all of them. None of them were planned for Tuesday November 11th, but in my head it had to be today….

I called Katie, well multiple times. To make sure for some FREAK reason she wouldn’t be coming home early… after I got off the phone I thought to myself… she must think I’m crazy.

60 Roses //48 Edison lights //24 Candles // 2 Kang gar-ee dishes from our favorite Thai restaurant // 2 Moscow Mules // 1 Engagement Ring & THE Luckiest guy in the world

Perfect recipe, I laid everything out all around the house… waited for her to come home and surprised her at the door. She walked in, and my heart started pounding so hard I thought she could feel it. Walked her through the house into the backyard where I had recreated Thailand for her… I had a speech all planned, not sure how that turned out but made sure to get the most important part out…

Will you marry me?  //  She began to cry, repeating yes, yes YES! As I placed the ring on her finger.  //  Little did she know I had been recording the entire moment, and just with my luck…  //  She turns to the camera, not knowing, and says “ ITS GORGEOUS!”  //  … the moral of the story is … no matter how much you plan … no matter how bad you want it to be perfect…

The part that matters is the memories you will make together, and with that said… I am the luckiest guy in the world to be marrying Katie Marie Zamora!

Joel & Ariana // Rustic engagement in Yucaipa, CA

FROM THE BRIDE //  Nothing says opposites attract more than me and Joel. We actually met as silly, quirky pre-adolescents on a missions trip to Mexico with our church. He wanted to date me early on, but I said no because I wasn’t allowed to until I was 16! Joel had to wait a few years (poor guy), but this was good because we got to know each other as good friends. My feelings for him took time because I was raised in a family that took relationships and marriage very seriously. During high school, I was drawn to how Joel projected integrity and maturity to me and our peers. He was a strong believer in Christ like I was, and he was selfless in his serving towards others. I remember in 10th grade, there was this time of day when Joel and I would cross paths on the way to classes, where he would always stop to give me a hug. As days passed, I became more and more excited for his hugs. They were always what got me through that drooling hour of math class. Finally, when I was 16 1/2, Joel asked me to be his girlfriend on the way to a Sixth Flags church trip. We shared both of our first kisses with each other and have been dating ever since (6 years now!).

I love that in our relationship we complement each other’s differences. I am very enthusiastic, spontaneous, and outgoing, while Joel is very stoic, calm, and quiet. He has been my rock in my most stressful times, and I have been his joy in his most broken times. Though we have our differences, we know that what we share is our love for God. We are definitely competitive with each other, especially in sports and games. And we also love to go on walks, go to the movies, and play with my nieces and nephew. Joel has always been very patient in sharing me with my family and friends, and he has always encouraged me to pursue my own passions and dreams. I love how God has grown and molded our high school sweetheart relationship into something so beautiful and complementary.

FROM THE GROOM //  I met Ari on a bus ride to Mexico for a missions trip when we were 12 years old. As crazy as it sounds, I knew then and there that she was a girl that I wanted to pursue. It didn’t happen immediately, but 4 years later our lives and friendship had developed to the point that we were able to start our romantic relationship. We started dating in 2008 and I can honestly say that these past 6 years have been the best of my life, and that is in large part to the amazing girl I have been able to spend them with.

Ari is the most empathetic person I have ever met. It is probably the quality that made me really fall in love with her. She feels so strongly for other people, and she is an inspiration to me every day take others needs and feelings into account when I am living my life. I also love how willing she is to challenge me to grow in areas that I struggle in (usually having to do with social settings). I think that is a really special aspect of our relationship. We can challenge each other without ever fearing backlash. We trust each other and want to continually grow as a couple and as individuals. I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life growing with my best friend.

HOW HE ASKED //  My family had planned a big trip in June to my one of my favorite places in the world, Lake Powell. This was Joel’s second time coming on the trip. I wasn’t anticipating an engagement yet, thinking it would happen later in the year. I went ring shopping for fun a few months before with a mentor of mine, and I showed Joel a few pictures of rings I liked. Little did I know he would buy one of those rings weeks later. He kept my family in suspense, having asked my dad’s permission back in April, so whenever my family knew we were hanging out, they thought this was it, Ari’s engaged for sure. Of course, I was completely oblivious to all this, so I went to Lake Powell thinking it would be a fun trip spent with family and Joel.

So, on our second day at Lake Powell, Joel took me on a hike up Rock Creek Canyon. We got pretty far and decided to rest before we went back down the trail. We talked and enjoyed the beauty around us. It was a nice, peaceful moment. Then I asked Joel if we should head back down, to which he replied “Hold on, I have to go to the bathroom first.” (Very romantic right? Haha) So I’m waiting and he comes back from behind a boulder and says “Ari, I found a cool rock over there, I brought it over to show you.” And then I look down and notice a ring in his hand. It hit me, Joel’s proposing, right now, right here, that’s not a dirty, brown rock, it’s a diamond rock! And all I could say was “Joel what are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? JOEL” He then asked me if I would marry him and my first response was, “Did you ask my dad first?” After I got the confirmation, I said yes. And finally, after 5 ½ years, we are engaged! I am beyond excited to begin this new adventure together!

Daniel & Sherry // Los Angeles Engagement Photographer

©2014 Sun & Sparrow Photography // Los Angeles Engagement Photographer

OUR PROPOSAL STORY  //  Daniel & I had been dating for a while. We had gone through years of family holidays, birthdays, anniversaries together. All in fun & in love. On Christmas Eve/Day 2012, Daniel presented me with a bike as a present. Hidden on the bike was a red book titled “100 More Things I Love About Sherry.” This little treasure was a sequel to an original “100 things I love about Sherry,” when we were first dating. I decided I would wait until all the hustle and bustle of opening gifts was over to read the details. Once all the Christmas gifts were opened and family members were either cleaning up  the kitchen, watching tv, or taking a dookie in the toilet, I decided to plop on the couch and finally read my book. In the meantime, Daniel was secretly watching me read his “opus.” But since all the family was still over, my niece, Elizabeth, kept distracting him by  turning on and off the lights (she was playing with her new light toy). Daniel doesn’t easily get angry, and I wondered why he was so sensitive, but I brushed it off and  I just kept on reading. Each page described his love for me in a deeper way. I began to tear up because I knew how far he had fallen from that first book he wrote so many years ago. When I flipped to the final page, it read “She is going to marry me, right?” At that moment, I looked at Daniel and he was on one knee with a beautiful ring. He made a beautiful speech of his love an affection for me, but I was way too nervous to pay attention. After he got up, I jumped to hug him and gave him a PG13 kiss (because family was around), and then my mom asked… “what’s happening?!”

        It was the perfect proposal.
OUR ENGAGEMENT PICTURE STORY  //  Daniel and I wanted an engagement session that reflected our love for Downtown LA and good cocktails. We often times go on random dates to Las Perlas, Cole’s, and Varnish to quell our thirst and thought that these venues would be an awesome backdrop for our photo session. Keeping in mind the Speakeasy theme for our wedding, we decided to extend the idea to convey that “Love is Timeless.” Whether it was having some “prohibition” cocktails in the 1920’s, sharing a root beer float in the 1950’s, or shooting some tequila/mezcal shots in present day, Daniel and I had a blast on our dates, falling in love in each era.  Los Angeles Engagement Photography
