Jack & Cindy // Southern California Coastal wedding at Casa Romantica

Describe your experience at your wedding in 1 paragraph, everything you remember.

Jack: The first emotion I felt during our wedding was joy on a number of different levels – joy that I was about to marry the woman of my dreams, joy that all of our shared experiences were about to culminate in a wonderful celebration, and joy that all of our hard work preparing for the big day was over and that we could finally savor all the day’s special moments.  The instant I saw Cindy during our first look felt like an incredible rush that didn’t let up until we woke up the next morning. The rest of the day felt like living in a fantasy. Our ceremony overlooked the Pacific Ocean on a beautiful Fall day, we had an amazing dinner with 120 of our closest friends and family, and then we danced the night away inside of a beautiful hacienda ballroom.  I’m glad that we have pictures to prove that we weren’t dreaming!

Cindy: The moment my bridesmaids and I arrived to Casa Romantica I felt a surge of emotions that brought me to a high unlike any other – excitement, nerves, anticipation, delight, and so much love. I was incredibly grateful for all the hard work that our families and bridal party had put in to make this a special day, and for all of our guests that had traveled from near and far to be with us. Walking down the aisle with my father to meet Jack was the sweetest and most loving scene that we could have asked for. We read our vows in front of our closest friends and family, and in that moment I couldn’t believe how fortunate we were – not only did I get to marry a wonderful man that has brought so much happiness into my life, but we also managed to have the wedding of our dreams. The coastal views, the laughter and cheers echoing through the walls, the beautiful flowers and decorations, our wedding band playing our favorite songs, it all came together to make our wedding an incredible experience.

What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?

Out of all the amazing moments, our favorite would have to be  the ceremony itself.  The ceremony took place on the ocean terrace of Casa Romantica, which overlooks the San Clemente pier and the beautiful Pacific coast. The weather was warm and the skies were clear. At one point, our officiant asked us to look out on all of our friends and family in attendance, and the feeling of love and support emanating from all of our guests, coupled with the love and support we felt from each other, is something we will never forget. A close second would have to be dancing with all of our guests as we wrapped up the reception to our song, I’m Gonna Be (500 miles).

What inspired you while planning your wedding & decor?

No one really tells you how much work goes into planning a wedding, but with the help of our fantastic wedding coordinator extraordinaire, Cortney Helaine, we were able to make our wedding dreams a reality. We wanted to set the scene in a beautiful, romantic, and intimate spot, and Casa Romantica allowed us to do just that. A venue as lovely as Casa meant that we only needed to add a few personal touches to make it special. From the dark red dahlias to the San Francisco themes, we wanted to bring details that were closest to our heart. The fact that each component of the wedding had been carefully curated by us brought on a feeling of accomplishment, as well as a feeling that we were living in some sort of dream world that had been created in our imaginations.

Do you have any advice for brides/grooms who are currently planning their weddings?

So much time and effort goes into planning a wedding that it can be easy to become distracted and not be in the moment. Make sure you let yourself enjoy the big day! All of the planning and stressing will be worth it, as long as you remember to turn off that part of your brain come wedding day.

how she did it

While we worked on our wedding decoration part, I’d say it was fun and very exciting for the most part as (the bride) I have a deep passion for decorating and love all types of flowers, I’m pretty crafty and creative when decorating in my personal life, I just love it with a passion. I was inspired by various artists and the many talented and amazing work I’d see online and on blogs, Alexandra Garza was one, which has her own You Tube channel, she inspired my wedding since the beginning with many of her great ideas and advice.

We believe the entire wedding day was extremely memorable to the both of us, but if we’d have to pick one or two of the most memorable moments it would be the entrance to our ceremony, it was an honor and a proud moment for us to walk hand in hand with our parents, the two amazing mothers and fathers God blessed us with. Truly an honor to have them give us away to each other and start a beautiful new journey of our own with God’s blessing. Also, the entrance to our reception having the AMAZING salsa band and DJ lead this part beautifully as we danced our way in surrounded by our most loved family and friends, which started and ended an amazing night with us, we truly felt blessed.

Photography was extremely important to the both of us because we knew that this would be our only memory left of such a special day that took so much sacrifice, patience, and love into every detail throughout the entire planning. We chose Sun & Sparrow because we were drawn to each amazing photo we saw, each one spoke to us, as we were doing our research we kept going back to these photos, the shots we saw in your website truly captured some amazing images filled with love, joy, & happiness, we wanted exactly that. Sun and Sparrow was also referred to us by my sister Marla Feeney whom is a professional photographer, we just knew her recommendation was a great one and she was right 🙂

Yes, our advice to new brides is, prepare in advance even if it means tackling one item at a time, when you start checking items off your list early on, the less stressed you’ll be the closer it gets to your wedding day. The sooner you plan the better! Also, don’t stress the small stuff, no one but you will notice, remember it’s all about having fun and enjoying the most memorable moment with your loved ones. As the bride gets teary eyed, for us being with each other day to day, waking up and going to bed knowing that we both have God at the center of our marriage, each other, and a deep love for one another is our favorite part of our marriage 🙂

Raphael & Ynez // Halloween Wedding at Ebell of Long Beach

©2015 Sun & Sparrow Photography // Halloween Wedding at Ebell of Long Beach

FROM THE BRIDE // When we were planning our wedding, we kept thinking about how we wanted to celebrate our wedding. We had gone through a number of ideas, but we kept coming back to our love of Halloween. Halloween is our favorite holiday but we wanted to keep the decor elegant and not so much kitchy but still fun. Because we wanted to have our wedding on Halloween, but we wanted it to also be classically beautiful, we decided on a masquerade theme to keep it in the Halloween spirit and keep it fun for the guests. The Ebell Club of Long Beach was so beautiful on it’s own that we really didn’t need to do much in terms of decor. Rosalie Floral & Event Design did an amazing job with my bouquet and all the centerpieces. Rafi’s sister helped me tremendously with the bridesmaids’ bouquets and toss bouquet. I had picked up all the flowers from Downtown LA and we just
whipped something up.

My most memorable moment from our wedding day was definitely walking down the aisle and seeing everyone. During our first look, Rafi kept kissing me. I told him we needed to wait because it wasn’t “officially” time to do so, but we had a laugh. It was such a special moment. I also loved our first dance. I remember that he kept spinning himself around me. I’m like: “You’re supposed to spin me!” LOL. It was really fun though. Maybe we should have practiced dancing.

When thinking about our wedding, I felt that photography was the most important part of our day. Because photos are forever! At the end of all the planning and running around and craziness, your photos are keep your memories alive. Sun & Sparrow was the first vendor Rafi and I had agreed upon. I had seen a lot of Claudia’s (Sun & Sparrow’s associate photographer) work and knew that she was very talented. I won’t lie, some friends tried to get us to go with less expensive photographers but the quality just didn’t even come close. After everyone saw how Claudia did such an amazing job with our engagement photos, then they knew what we already had known that we had made the right decision going with Sun & Sparrow.

My one piece of advice for all planning brides out there, make sure to make the decor personal, keep it simple, and above all make it fun. For example, Rafi and I both like to draw so instead of a guest book we had sketchbook with colored pencils and no bleed markers. Total came out to $10 bucks! Talk about budget friendly! Having a day of coordinator may sound like a luxury but it’s worth it. I lucked out because my aunt, Serena Hollingsworth of Polka Dot Planners gifted me her services. Having her there took all the pressure off. I couldn’t imagine having my wedding without her. Don’t believe everything you read on Pinterest. If you’re a creative type, go with the practical DIY projects. Have a squad of kick-ass bridesmaids who get stuff done. Roll with the
punches. Have fun!!!

how she did it

Shane and I actually had a civil ceremony in 2013. We decided to have an intimate ceremony and reception on March 28th 2015 with friends and family so that we could put God’s love on display. We wanted to share with our loved ones our thankfulness and obedience to our Lord and Savior. I was inspired immediately after we found the venue (South Coast Botanic Garden – Palos Verdes Peninsula) to create a romantic space that was both inviting and fun! Our most memorable moments were sharing our vows and watching our son Shane who was also our ring bearer bust a move on the dance floor! Photography was important to us because this would be our way to look back and relive such an amazing day that went by way too quickly. Those moments shared with our family and friends that are priceless and cherished greatly were captured and can be viewed forever. I knew Sun and Sparrow was for us after the initial conversation I had with Tiffani. I could feel God’s presence and when Claudia and I were introduced, I felt that I was left in perfect hands for a perfect day! My advice for any brides that are in the planning process would be to enjoy each moment because how quickly it comes and goes. Understand that nothing will go exactly as you planned lol I repeat something will go wrong…but to trust that God is in control. So take a deep breath and enjoy each second!

John & Pam // Villa Verano Santa Barbara wedding

Santa Barbara Wedding Photography - Love on the Beach

Sun & Sparrow is one of the leading engagement and wedding photographers in the Los Angeles area as well as Santa Barbara and Orange County.

FROM THE BRIDE // We can both honestly say that the entire weekend was the best time of our lives!  We spend those few days with our closest friends and family, and we couldn’t be more blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives.

Our wedding day took place in gorgeous Santa Barbara, California.  This location has an extra special meaning because John proposed at the fountain in front of the Old Mission church, the same place we had our wedding ceremony!  The ceremony was nice and the priest allowed us to enjoy the moment with all the people who traveled to be with us.  We then took advantage of the beach landscape to take photos after the wedding; the entire wedding party rode in a cute open-air trolley.  The wedding reception took place in the Riviera Mansion of the University Club, and this unique venue helped us achieve our wedding dreams.  Also, that particular weekend was the annual Spanish Fiesta, so there were even more festivities around Santa Barbara that our guests could enjoy!

Our wedding party and friends stayed in an amazing private villa during the wedding weekend.  That time together gave us a chance to reunite and bond since we aren’t all in one place often enough.  It was a ton of fun and we created even more everlasting memories there.  Even the photographers got to partake in our fun and delicious food ☺

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR WEDDING? //  It’s funny, John and I both thought we were a modern, trendy couple and liked that style.  But, as we were planning the wedding, we were choosing more traditional and romantic themes.  We definitely learned a lot about ourselves through this process.  Rather than a theme, it was most important to us to make this wedding both personalized to us as a couple as well as interactive with our guests.  This wedding wasn’t just about us; we genuinely wanted everyone to have a good time.  Our wedding colors were teal and yellow, but we didn’t want the reception to scream that color scheme.  Our wedding coordinators, Carpe Diem Events, helped us achieve this vision!

WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE/FAVORITE PART ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DAY?  //  There were honestly so many memorable moments that it was difficult to choose just one!  If we had to pick, our top 2 favorite moments were probably the surprise flash mob and the last dance.  It was crazy that so many people were involved in learning the dance routine and pulling it off!  During the last dance our friends and family circled us, and John even had a chance to sing.

WHY WAS PHOTOGRAPHY IMPORTANT TO YOU AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SUN & SPARROW?  //  We put so much effort into this wedding, and created so many amazing memories.  The time flies by like everyone says, and there may have been many things we didn’t get a chance to see.  We wanted to remember these moments forever, so great photography was definitely a priority for the both of us.  We clicked with Tiffani right from our initial meeting, and most importantly, we loved the style of Sun & Sparrow’s photography.  Throughout the process they went above and beyond to meet our needs.  From the super fun engagement shoot to the actual wedding day, Tiffani and the team were very professional yet very fun.  I hope this isn’t the last time we work together ☺

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF BEING MARRIED NOW?  //  Although we have been together for many, many years…being married still feels different.  There’s this feeling of true commitment and that we are really in this relationship side-by-side, officially.  It’s great calling each other “husband” and “wife.”
