Rob & Heidi // Palm Springs Wedding Photographer

how she did itWHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR WEDDING?
Heidi: We wanted our wedding to feel like a vacation and Rancho Las Palmas in Rancho Mirage was the perfect venue. We wanted a relaxing California wedding with palm trees blowing in the background and the warm sunshine. Our guests came from around the nation and across the world (my father’s side of the family is from Austria). We wanted them to experience California for all its beauty.

Rob: Fun. We had guests traveling from between 10 and 10,000 miles away, so we wanted to make sure that folks enjoyed themselves during their time with us. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for – relaxed and carefree wherever possible.

WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE/FAVORITE PART ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DAY?
Heidi: My father being able to attend and walk me down the aisle. Also, we had an amazing 80s cover band, Knyght Ryder, and they did such a great job on our first dance to REO Speedwagon’s “Keep on Loving You”. Our smiles in the pictures say it all. We loved that our bridal party came out and joined us on the dance floor.

Rob: Seeing Heidi at the first look. I was absolutely floored, she looked amazing.

WHY WAS PHOTOGRAPHY IMPORTANT TO YOU?

Heidi: We wanted simple photography that was soft enough to capture our special day without feeling staged.

Rob: To record the joy of the day. We knew it would go by quickly, so we wanted professionals on hand to be sure that we didn’t miss any of the important moments in an unobtrusive way.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SUN & SPARROW?
Heidi: I loved the softness of their photos. Nothing looked staged and it just felt right. I saw their work on Pinterest and I knew within the first few pictures that I browsed through that they were girls for me! Tiffani and Ellie are truly amazing. They were professional, punctual, respectful and hilarious. They made our day easy for us!

DID YOU DO ANY DIY PROJECTS? IF SO, WHAT?
Heidi: Rob’s mother passed away 5 years ago and it was very important that we honored her at our wedding. We made a very special “memorial table” where we showcased all of our loved ones that are no longer with us. Rob and his mom were the centerpiece. Now, those pictures are in our home!

ROB: I’ve got a group of friends from high school that my mom called “her boys” because they spent so much time at our house. Since my dad, sister, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew were all in the bridal party, we had the group of friends wear boutonnières and sit in the front row – recognizing their importance as members of our family.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR BRIDES WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PLANNING PROCESS?  //  Enjoy the process. Don’t fight over the guest list because it will all work out.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF BEING MARRIED NOW?
Heidi: Besides staring at my wedding band in the sunlight? Rob is my better half. I love being able to call him my husband.

Rob: Being part of a team for life. I’ve got an intelligent, caring, loyal, beautiful partner in my corner and I couldn’t be happier about it.
