When it came time to plan our wedding we knew we’d be planning around a strict budget so we had to prioritize what would be included in our day. When it came down to it the most important thing was for us to have a day that represented us as a couple. We wanted our guests to experience our love, faith and joy and to surround us on the day our grand adventure would officially begin. Of the utmost importance to us was a meaningful ceremony where we could publicly express our love for each other. The first time we visited Serra Cross together we knew this was the place we wanted to be married (we weren’t even engaged yet, but we knew). We wanted our family and friends to witness our commitment to each other and to hold God at the center of our marriage in the beauty of God’s creation. Mountains, Ocean & some wind; we fully embraced the great outdoors. We were fortunate enough to have the groom’s cousin, Elena Vega, marry us. She created a beautiful and unique ceremony that spoke to who we are as a couple and incorporated our faith and commitment throughout.
One of our favorite parts of the day was when we drove from the ceremony to the reception. It was just the two of us, on the open road. We were able to soak in the moment and reflect on the day thus far and just be us. We feel so blessed to have had that special time together.
So many people wanted to show us their support, it is overwhelming to think of how loved we truly are. We were honored to have Family and friends drive in from all over California and Arizona and fly in from Washington, Oregon, Iowa & Texas. For the reception, we wanted to make sure everyone had a good time and from the feedback we got they certainly did. Luckily the bride’s Grandma Marlys was able to host the reception at her wonderful community center. This great location enabled us to bring in many of our favorite things! We began journaling after the wedding so that we could remember how we felt in those moments, here are excerpts from the bride and groom.
Bride: “Getting ready it didn’t really sink in until I was getting into my gown. Wow! We are really here! All that prep, excitement & anticipation… As I walked down the aisle, it was really an out of body experience. I hardly recognized the crowd even though I knew them all. I couldn’t stop smiling or crying as I walked toward my best friend… I was so thrilled to be announced as Mr. and Mrs. Uriel Torres.”
Groom: “Once I saw my bride it took everything I had to hold it together. For that moment everything was in slow motion. To think I will spend the rest of my life with this woman… Malyssa was officially Mrs. Torres. Still sounds a little weird. But it feels just right.” Our wedding day was a labor of love from start to finish. Our friends and family had a hand in everything that was accomplished, set-up, clean up and everything in-between. Thank you to everyone who helped us make our dream come true, especially our Parents, we could not have done it without the four of you.
