FROM THE BRIDE // I absolutely loved my wedding day. There were so many wonderful memories, that there were too many have a favorite. Moments like walking down the aisle with both of my parents, to seeing all of our closest friends and family, to exchanging our personal vows, the speeches given during our reception, dancing with everyone on the dance floor with rave lights, etc. Literally everything felt so special. It was one of the happiest days of my life. If I could think of one of my favorite parts about my wedding, it would definitely be planning my wedding. The Best part of planning the wedding was being able to spend so much time with friends and family. I felt so loved and supported being with them and would definitely do the whole process again.
When I look back at my wedding day, I realize how very blessed I was to have wedding planners to help. I can’t rave enough about Candace and Katherine from LOVE IS SWEET EVENTS. Those ladies were so very thoughtful and so very observant of what kind of colors and styles I liked. We had many conversations and planning meetings, and had spent lots of time on Pinterest together. They did a great job on putting a lot of it together and bringing my visions to life. I also want to shout out to my sister-in-law, Esther, who helped so much and guided me through the process. She taught me everything I needed to know about making my wedding special. I couldn’t have done it without my whole planning team. They made my day awesome!
If I have one bit of advice for brides planning their weddings, it would be to not stress and get too caught up in all the bells and whistles of a wedding. Even if certain things don’t go the way you had dreamed, remember that the only thing that should really matter is that you’re getting married to the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. I am so happy I did my best to not stress.

Alice & Eddie // Fairytale engagement at the LA Arboretum

    LA Arboretum Engagement 0002

FROM THE GROOM // Alice and I got engaged on December 6th, 2014. Up until that point, 2014 had been a difficult year for us. Alice’s Mom had passed on that Oct. leaving us devastated. Understandably, Alice was dealing with a lot during that time.
Two weeks prior to Dec. 6th, I had mentioned to Alice that I wanted to take her to Vista Hermosa park to take some pictures with the DSLR camera that she had bought me. The park has a bench that sits on top of a hill overlooking the LA skyline. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the ‘spot’. I told Alice that we could go grab some food in Downtown LA after and make a date of it. She agreed and the plan was in motion.
So Dec 6. finally arrives and I wake up feeling extremely nervous. Alice comes up to me and says, ‘Can we not go today? I just want to stay home’. My immediate reaction was ‘ARE YOU SERIOUS???’. She later gave in as she saw how annoyed I was getting.
We finally head out to to the park. On the drive there, I was texting with my little brother since he was already at the park and was camping out at the bench so that no one takes it. We arrive at the park and I quickly throw the ring into the inside pocket of my coat.
At this point, Alice was already beginning to think that something was up. She goes over and starts looking around my camera bag and walks up behind me asking me ‘if something was going to happen today’. I gave her a huge laugh and flat out told her ‘no’ to her face. I don’t think I have ever seen her that disappointed…
Now with the sun setting, I decided it was time. I had her stand in front of the bench and I set the camera on ‘record’ so that I could capture the moment. I walked up to Alice and told her that my friend had sent me a weird video the other day. The video itself was something I put together through the help of our close friends and family. It consisted of 10-15 sec clips of our friends talking about what comes to mind when they think about us. The video ended with a clip of me letting her know that I had one more question to ask…I then got down on one knee and I asked her the most important question of my life.

Steven & Joanna // Boho wedding at Oak Canyon Nature Center

FROM THE BRIDE // Steven and I both wanted our wedding to be simple. We thought about eloping and realized that it wasn’t a good idea since both our families and friends patiently waited 11 years for our special day. We were able to successfully plan a ceremony for our guest to attend and small enough for both of us to feel comfortable. We knew that we wanted our ceremony to be outdoors among nature and were lucky to find such a beautiful location in a short amount of time.
We decided to have a “first look” and that by far was my favorite part of our wedding day. I can’t describe the feeling I got as I walked up to Steven other than being at peace. Claudia was an absolute pleasure to work with and I’m glad she was able to capture all those special moments for us.
With the help of our friends and family, our wedding ceremony and backyard reception were under $2,000. My advice for those planning their wedding is to not comprise your budget. We were able to plan our wedding for 80 guest, under 6 months, for the same amount budgeted if we were to elope.
My favorite part about being married? My last name no longer starts with a Z 🙂

Jason Wahler and Ashley Slack get married // Calamigos Ranch Wedding

        jason wahler ashley slack wedding

FROM THE BRIDE //  When planning our wedding, Jason and I wanted our day to be full of romance and beauty. It was easy for us to choose our venue, because we love the look of classic estate garden parties and we both love the feel and whimsy of 1940’s fashion. Immediately, we both fell in love with the vintage garden feel that the Garden Patio at Calamigos Ranch had to offer. We knew it was our day and we wanted it have a beautiful classic feel with a little bit of hollywood glamour mixed in.

When looking back at our day, I remember walking down the aisle most vividly. Jason and I had decided that we wanted to wait to see one another until we met at the alter. It was exhilarating to see my soon-to-be husband standing under a beautiful arbor full of flowers and fabric tearing up. As my dad walked me down the aisle I could see all of my friends and family smiling and tears of joy welling in their eyes. They could all feel the true love in the air!

We were very interested in having the best photographers that captured our personalities. We wanted our day to be told as a story without words. We wanted our images to not only give you a sense of sight but a feeling when you saw them. The best part about our photographers is the simplicity behind their images. I loved that every moment was documented and that we were able to see our true emotions and love for one another without feeling like we were pushed and pulled in 100 directions. I loved that everything was not posed and just very effortless the photography made you feel something and i loved the way they help capture memories that tell a story.

My biggest and best advice for anyone planning a wedding is to make your wedding day the most beautiful wedding you have ever seen! The day goes by so fast and you don’t really want to miss any moment. Even though it is an investment make the details count because you will appreciate that your day was the most perfect day of your life. Your guests will love you no matter what, but I am so happy that we spent the time to make everything as big as my dreams. Also make sure you have fun and remember everyone is there for you and you husband.
