FROM THE BRIDE // A few years ago Tyler and I decided we were going to visit every baseball park in the states. Last year when we were trying to come up with plans for a vacation, we decided to take a road trip to a Arizona and catch a game at Chase Field.  We then thought it’d be fun to make it a whole road trip  vacation and drive to the Grand Canyon, (I love hiking and the outdoors) and then head to Vegas as the last stretch. We spent a few days in Arizona and drove to the Grand Canyon a day before the 4th of July. We got to the Grand Canyon and walked along the trail for a bit and eventually went off the trail to get a better view. He pulled my hand back as I started making my way back to the trail and knelt down as he asked me to marry him

I could tell he was super nervous because he barely managed to mumble a few words hahaha something along the lines of “I don’t know how this works but now that none one is around, will you marry me?” As much as I would have loved to have gotten a picture of that moment, I know that he expressed his feelings his way. It was so sweet how vulnerable he was at that moment and it made me feel so much more special. That whole mini vacation was so much fun and amazing. Definitely worth the wait

Roberto & Alyson // Dreamy forest engagement in Los Angeles

FROM THE BRIDE // Roberto and I met a little over 2 years ago while doing a service year in AmeriCorps and have been inseparable ever since! We had talked about getting married so I knew an engagement was coming I just didn’t know when. I already knew it was going to be the best day ever because we were going to see my absolute favorite band (Johnnyswim) which I had been looking forward to for months!! Little did I know Roberto had also been planning a proposal the whole time. He asked me to meet him a little bit early so that we could “go to dinner” but when I met him at the venue, he surprised me by saying that we were actually going to be able to meet the band! So we go in to meet the band and they are rehearsing songs for the show. After a couple songs they start to sing one of my favorite songs (Summertime Romance) and the lights go down and pretty twinkly lights come on. Midway through the song Roberto got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Afterwards the band came to talk to us and signed one of their records for us. It was the most surreal experience! I’m really looking forward to marrying my best friend and I can’t wait for all of our family and friends to come together for the wedding.

Sun & Sparrow is one of the leading engagement and wedding photographers in the Los Angeles area as well as Santa Barbara and Orange County.FROM THE GROOM // Not only is Portia beautiful, but also very clever. She is also my best friend who knows that I am not very good at keeping secrets. I knew my best chances at surprising her with the proposal was to ask her on a day she would least expect it: my birthday. I figured she would be too distracted planning for my birthday to notice any possible hints.

The day of my birthday, Portia had the entire evening planned for me. She picked me up from work so that we could immediately go out for a nice dinner and later meet up my friends at a bar in LA. Upon arriving to the bar, she seemed very suspicious and wondered why a lot of her friends and family with difficult schedules had made it.

It was time, and after one beer to calm my nerves, I asked Portia to take a picture of me and all my guests. As we began to gather for the photo, Portia’s closest friends and family and I lined up to the front. I was beginning to feel the adrenaline rush and felt my knees weaken.

Portia began counting — “1”. In my mind I could see what I was about to do, I was about to be the luckiest man alive! “2” — Then I began to doubt myself, wondering the possibility of her saying no. But at the same time, I thought to myself, if she says yes, we will all celebrate with drinks, but if she says no… good thing I’m at a bar already. “3” — Finally, all of Portia’s loved ones zipped down their sweaters to reveal the t-shirt message in large letters, “Portia Salazar will you marry me?”

As she put the camera down, I walked up to her with the ring in hand and got down on one knee and said, “Portia Salazar I have loved you from the moment I met you, will you marry me and let me love you for the rest of your life?” I was so nervous I couldn’t speak up and I had to repeat myself, but she said YES! I put the engagement ring on her and celebrated the rest of the night with our loves ones.

Portia and I are both excited to begin our lives together, travel, and start our own family.
