FROM OUR BEAUTIFUL BRIDE //

1. Describe your how you felt on your wedding morning, all the anticipation and the love. What were you most looking forward to in the beginning of your day.

We woke up both feeling super giddy and excited for our big day at Birchwood Room at Calamigos Fairytale wedding! We planned it so we would be well rested from the night before which I think helped us feel energized and ready for all the fun to begin. I was most looking forward to seeing Scott looking super sharp in his suit and having our first look. I loved spending the morning with my best gals surrounding me
and sharing all of my excitement with them but it wasn’t until I saw Scott for the first time, that all my nerves went out the window and I just felt a sense of calm and knowing. He looked incredible! And he’s always my rock when it comes to navigating high emotion situations. We’ve always said we can do anything if we’re doing it together.

2. How did you feel when you your husband at your FIRST LOOK for the first time?

Walking down the aisle was also one of the most powerful and impactful moments of the day. My dad walked my mom down first and circled back around for me so I ended up having a few minutes or so to myself as I watched the rest of the procession move ahead of me. It was definitely a moment where I was able to pause and really breathe everything in. I remember “Something” by the Beatles playing and then “Dear Prudence” coming after and knowing I was next. (The Beatles have always been significant to Scott and I’s relationship as our first date was the Beatles exhibit at The Grammy Museum). Once my dad came back to join me, we had a few moments together of getting ready and really soaking everything in. I told him his one job was to not let me trip, which he assured me I was good. We linked arms and again took a moment to pause once we approached the two beautiful birch trees. I was able to look around and take in so many smiling faces. The sun was shining through the trees and the moment just felt completely heavenly. It filled my heart with so much joy seeing all of our closest family and friends there to honor and support us. And then I saw Scott, and again, I felt that same calmness once we made eye contact and followed each others gaze until my dad and I reached him. After hugging my dad, Scott leaned in to steal a kiss from me… I later told him this was not standard, in which he said he couldn’t resist in that moment. Pure love and joy right there. I later learned he also hugged each one of the groomsmen as they walked up… again, just so much love, no one could resist sharing it with one another.

Scott describes his moment of watching me walk down the aisle as being “blown away and the happiest I’ve ever felt in my life.” (He’s not as descriptive as me ;))

3. What was your favorite moment/story from your wedding day?

There are sooo many!!!! First look, walking down the aisle, the musical interlude during the ceremony hand in hand with Scott (another great moment of pause), the recessional after being announced husband and wife and everyone cheering. We also both loved being re-introduced by our DJ after the cocktail reception. It felt like it was the moment we could really join the party and let the fun begin. We listened to “Let My Love Open The Door” on repeat at least five or six times the next day. Also loved our first dance to “Romeo & Juliet” by Dire Straits. We hadn’t practiced at all, but Scott took the lead and spun me a few times. We laughed and talked privately and just spun around the room as people watched, but it really just felt like we were the only two humans on earth in that moment. The speeches were also amazing! All three were so well written, thoughtful, funny, and incredibly heartfelt. I cried during all three of them… some of the most happy tears I’ve ever experienced. And then of course, the dancing! All the smiles and all of the excitement on the dance floor was so fun! I loved seeing people from all parts of our lives uniting on the dance floor. At one point Scott’s mom was dancing hand in hand with my best friend from high school from Chicago on one side, and my best friend from LA in the other.

4. How did your day most feel like a fairytale?

The whole day and evening was just truly magical, from the joy and feeling of love in the room, to the food, to the carefully curated playlist, to the garden setting, and the beautiful romantic atmosphere. Every time we paused to look around, we felt like we had to pinch ourselves to wake up from a dream. The sparkling twinkle lights and hanging chandeliers left such a lasting visual impression. And I absolutely loved my dress… I had so many compliments and people asking if it was vintage, which I secretly loved because it was not, but it was 100% the vibe and look I was going for. All of the lacey details were so dreamy. Of course the most fairytale part however was my incredible new husband. I was just so joyful and grateful to be marrying the absolute love of my life and to experience all of the love and support from our favorite people as we took this giant step together.

FROM THE BRIDE // My vision started with wanting to get married under a Willow tree with twinkle lights and have a romantic feel. So I started my research for a venue with that as the determining factor. I used Pinterest as my research tool with a lot. Pinterest is so convenient and helped me gather pictures of what I wanted to create for my wedding board. My wedding venue was at Calamigos Ranch. This property is absolutely beautiful! It has a rustic feel to it but I think with my décor it gave a more romantic/whimsical feel. I also wanted to make sure everything was custom to Anthony and I and to include décor that was meaningful to us. The elements around us when we got married were important. I had a cross custom-made that held our unity candle, which represented having God at the center of us. The giveaways for the guests were little succulent plants that I handpicked and my bridal party helped pot each one. We pinned our engagement pictures to show our family and friends the romantic moments between Anthony and I. I was beyond excited to see everything come together so nicely.

My favorite moment was really marrying my best friend! Walking down the aisle seeing him, the set up and everyone joined together to watch us was truly a blessing. We flew in my Uncle Sam who is a pastor in Spain to marry us. It was important to have someone marry us that know us and can speak from the heart. All in all I loved my entire wedding. I enjoyed every bit of it from the beginning of the day all the way to the end. (I didn’t want it to end!) I couldn’t have been blessed with better vendors and wedding party.

Photography is important to us because it’s what captures important moments of our special day. Photos are always kept and looked at. They are always shared between family and friends. It takes a talented person to capture emotion and feelings within a picture. I was really particular about choosing a photographer. One of my friends used Sun & Sparrow for the wedding like 4 years ago and I always loved their pictures. So when I was on the hunt Sun & Sparrow was definitely in my top picks. Then I saw their website with all the other engagement/wedding photos and it was instant. I knew they were the one. Plus, when Tiffani and I first spoke we totally vibed and I loved her personality!

One thing that I think would have taken some ease off for me in the planning process was to attend a Bridal expo. I never did and I’m thankful that I pulled it off without going but I definitely think that it’s a great starting step. My favorite tool to use was The Knot app for the checklist feature. Every month it gave me my task to do.  Also, when going to other weddings really take a look at the vendors and their work/style. Some of my vendors I already had locked in because I loved their work from my best friend’s wedding. Make sure to also ask around with friends and family. It’s always nice to know of someone who used the vendors before or if they have tips on planning process. It’s a plus hearing other people’s wedding stories. The most important part really is keeping God in the center of it all. Prayer helps with everything and it’s amazing to see how God works in mysterious ways.

My favorite part of being married now is living together! We share our daily lives together now and for the rest of our lives. Making the house have both our personality and look to it.  It’s fun being couch potatoes together. I enjoy cooking and he enjoys my cooking..hahaha. It really is just all the little things that I love right now.

Heather & Michael // Calamigos Equestrian Garden wedding

©2015 Sun & Sparrow Photography //  Calamigos Equestrian Garden wedding

FROM THE BRIDE //    We are about the moments, about being so in love that you can feel it when you get close, about the twirl of our beautiful daughter in her dress. We are about family and friends and joy and laughter. These are the things that inspired us both for our wedding day. We wanted to capture the essence of who we are together and so we chose our beautiful venue, surrounded by hills and horses, choosing with intention the day of the summer solstice, celebrating on the longest day of the year. What better than a midsummers day with enchanting yellow and white bouquets of flowers, feathers and dreamcatchers and of course marrying my love.

It was the perfectest of days for us, the energy was so full of love, my shy daughter as flower girl, a very dear friend performing our ceremony. There was laughter, there were tears and there was dancing. Through all of that y favorite part was seeing Michael waiting for me as I walked down the aisle, the shimmer of tears in his eyes as he met might, the knowing that this was so right. And our first dance, so romantic and full of love and so full of silliness and laughter as we changed up the music so our 2 year old daughter could join us! And the couples dance, we had so many married couples, we decided to dedicate a dance for them and it was just so amazing and wonderful watching everyone get on the dance floor together, embracing each other and just genuinely feeling the love.
So many aspects of planning a wedding are important, choosing the right vendors to work with, but the most important vendor for us was our photographer ( and the food!). We wanted to make sure we chose a team that would celebrate with us, be passionate about day, to be able to trust that the moments would be captured, especially the moments we didn’t know were there. We chose Sun and Sparrow because their photo have an almost ethereal magic to them.Their photos seem to come to life, just beautiful photos that would capture everything. And can I just say…a photographer willing to face the elements! (Thank you Tiffani for also doing our stunning rainy day engagement photos!)
To brides planning their wedding now, don’t forget to include your fiance in this process,,,even if they just want to do a little bit. Find your rhythm, and go with it, enjoy the whole journey, even the lows of it. It will be an amazing day no matter what! When the day finally arrives, just remember you are there to marry your love, if some piece of that day doesn’t come together the way you planned – its really ok- you will be the only one who knows, everyone else will be all eyes on you two!
What is our favorite part of being married? We have been together for many, many years, we have a two year old daughter that we adore and so we thought things would remain relatively the same, but they didn’t, things got so much better. We see each other differently, we are husband and wife, we have made that commitment to our family, to the journey. Its a great feeling being married!
