FROM THE BRIDE // I had not been to Hawaii since elementary school and Robert had never been, so when my parents invited us to go on a trip to Kauai we jumped on the opportunity. It was perfect timing too, landing on the week of our fifth anniversary together.
The weather could not have been more perfect and our hotel was right on the beach in Poipu. We hit the ground running as soon as we arrived. We spent the next few days driving all over the island to snorkel at different beaches, we hiked to waterfalls, kayaked (if you ever want to test your relationship, kayaking is the way to do it haha), we zip lined for the first time, and had the best ahi poke either of us had ever had. I was never coming home.
Every night we walked on the beach after dinner, so on the third night when Robert asked me to go for a walk I didn’t think anything of it. We held hands and walked through the sand, the sun had already set so it was completely dark aside from the moon and the torches that lined the pathway a few feet away. Robert stopped in his tracks all of a sudden and turned to me, he told me he loved me, that he could not imagine his future without me… and then I blacked out. I wish I could say I remember exactly how it went but it was a blur of tears and shock and joy. He got down on one knee, right there in the middle of the beach, just him and I and asked me to marry him. I of course said YES! We both cried and hugged for what felt like forever, and then headed back to share the news with my parents!
To my surprise my parents were on the balcony cheering with champagne, I could not believe they knew the whole time! Unbeknownst to me, Robert had asked for their blessing the week before we left. We spent the rest of the evening telling all of our loved ones at home and toasting to our future. To date, it was the most romantic night of my life, and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.
