A Bride’s thoughts on her Romantic Fairytale inspired Wedding

FROM THE BRIDE // Although a wedding day can be stressful, I felt extremely relaxed (maybe a bit too much?) ever since I woke up. I still couldn’t believe I was going to marry the love of my life. The idea of it seemed so big and unbelievable (in a good way) but once I would remind myself that God had this intention all along, I felt peacefully joyful. No matter if things were going to go “wrong” that day, my part has been done and the most important part of it all is… marrying that man that’s going to be waiting for me at the end of the aisle.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR WEDDING?

Like many brides, I wanted a fairytale ever since I was little. I was searching for it without really expecting it. Then came the day I was treated like one by my boyfriend, not just on the first day, or the first week, or the first month, but every day since. Even when we were only friends! (You can guess now that my boyfriend, Nigel became my husband!) I wanted to show our story and tell through my pictures that it is all a process and that we all have to be patient.

Our engagement showed our story in a forest/nature setting where things are all in the open but it is still all about us. Building our relationship, writing our own chapters, walking beside each other, finding each other, and understanding each other. There was a path with pavements and bricks that seemed like it was leading to something mysterious and beautiful; this is definitely how I felt with Nigel. We could determine our plans and our goals, but God knows so much more and so much further than that.

Before we even came up with an inspiration, I had told my sister-in-law to find me a “foresty”, “out of the ordinary” and “magical” place. That’s how I wanted our wedding to be. She found this venue that just blew my mind away. When Nigel and I went to see it in person, we were just amazed at how beautiful it was. It was secluded, private, foresty, out of the ordinary, magical but most of all, it definitely felt like a fairytale. There were castle gates with lots of trees that would lead to this hidden wonder.

It was like any fairytale story taking place in a castle, we opened the gates to our loving friends and family, and we had a beautiful ceremony followed by lots of festivities. Although it seemed like there was a castle, it was more pieces of a castle, here and there, mixed with trees, grass, and water.  That path I talked about earlier, it meant the road and journey we took that led us to the gates of our wedding day, to show our loved ones (and the world) our fairytale story and a future we cannot wait to build.

WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE/FAVORITE PART ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DAY?

//  Nigel and I said we would not be reading our own vows but come the day of the wedding… I wake up, I read a text from him and he’s telling me he will be reading something to me after we do our vows. One-upper much? Haha. In all honesty, I felt blessed that my man was going to go above and beyond to show all of our friends and family how much he loved me.

I would say, my most memorable and favorite part of all, was how Nigel felt and reacted when reading his vows. Of all the love story movies I have seen (and I have seen many!), it was by far, the most beautiful thing anyone could have acted on television history! Mind that, Nigel’s not the most upfront about his love feelings in front of other people. It was simply beautiful and I think, at that moment, everyone knew just how much he felt for me and how we were meant to be.

Why was photography important to you?

//  Ahhh… I still feel emotional from writing the previous answer! Okay… Many can agree with me, that a photo captures and preserves a special moment forever. We wanted photographers that had the same vision as us. It’s not about just taking the picture but about telling the story. As I mentioned before, our wedding day went by so fast. We wanted to remember everything, even things we couldn’t see. Like what were our guests doing during cocktail hours? We wanted to see the guest-perspective of the wedding but also, have all these wonderful photographs to always remember that, that day, was our most important day!

It’s not just taking the picture and that’s it. It’s being able to tell a story behind it. Sun & Sparrow is all about telling stories. As you can see on their website, they go by this saying through all their work, they create memories and tell stories. They definitely have an eye for it and since my whole wedding was about something more than the ordinary, Sun & Sparrow had to be part of it. Not only they are photographers, but they also become friends.

They became my go-to when I felt stressed or overwhelmed. They talked to me, they smiled at me, they joked with me. I wanted a photographer that understood and made me feel safe. Just like any relationship! This bond was definitely God’s way of blessing me with amazing God-loving people.

Do you have any advice for brides who are currently in the planning process??

Many “been-there” brides will agree with me, my wedding ceremony and reception went by way too fast. My husband and I enjoyed it as much as we could but things move so quickly… After dinner, we took some time to ourselves and walked around the lake that had a view of both our ceremony/dancing area and reception area.

It was beautiful to oversee the entire venue and what we have worked on for a year. We just walked and talked, all by ourselves. It is truly important to catch your breath with your other half. Also, there will most likely be something going wrong on your wedding day (not always but it happens) but really… it doesn’t have to be “wrong” but can it just “unexpectedly change”? You have to catch your breath and tell yourself… It’s done, I’m marrying my man! There’s nothing else you can do at this moment and you just have to embrace that day fully and marry your boo-boo!
