Interview With The Bride

Tell us about your fairytale oak grove wedding!

The morning of the wedding was the first time in a while I felt so relaxed because everything was out of my hands. I got to enjoy the morning getting ready with my mother, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. It was so nice to chat before the hectic craziness of the day took over. Once Sun and Sparrow got there and the videographer, Russell, everything went full speed ahead and the day just went so fast!

It was just so lovely to see all of our family from across the nation and the globe come together to celebrate us, it was just so special. Everything came together perfectly and all the planning was so worth it in the end. The best compliments we had about our wedding was how fun it all was and that just meant the world to us because that was what he had planned from the start.

From our vows, and hilarious speeches from friends and family, to the live band karaoke allowing everyone to sing their hearts out—the entire night was so full of belly laughs, wide smiles, and carefree dancing. We wanted to make our wedding not just beautiful but personal, unique, fun, and memorable and I think we did achieve that!

What was your favorite moment from your wedding day? Did you have any special moments/stories with friends or family that stand out to you?

Indeed, the whole day goes by so quickly, but luckily I made it a point with Garrett to remind ourselves to take it all in and remember special moments. My favorite moment from my wedding day was entering the reception after we had just walked down the aisle after being pronounced husband and wife.

We had not been alone yet the entire day and were alone for just a couple of seconds while everyone was cheering outside as the ceremony ended. I had never seen my (now) husband so happy in our entire years together; I will remember that moment forever. His favorite moment was seeing everyone dance and sing on the dance floor. Everyone let loose! We cannot wait to see all the pictures to relive our amazing day!

What inspired you while planning your wedding?

I had spent many months making our décor—my mom told me that our wedding was going to be my little art exhibit. My husband and his family are from Connecticut and my family is from California so I made string art to welcome our families to our wedding. (I guess someone loved these so much because they have not been seen since after the wedding!).

From the table numbers, sewing the sweetheart table linen, all the sign-in table décor, our dog’s collar wreath, toss petals, and metal geometric table décor with air plants—it was all a labor of love. Garrett made the seating chart and my family pitched in to make all of the succulent wedding favors. Our décor reflected our modern rustic style and mirrored the beautiful greenery of our venue. It was important to me to decorate our wedding with things we would love in our own home, which made our wedding feel not too formal but very casual and inviting.

Do you have any advice for brides/grooms who are currently planning their weddings?

I recommend ranking vendors by importance to you and your fiancé and letting that dictate how much you spend. Maybe the venue isn’t that important but the food is, or maybe the dress is lower on the ranking but the band is number one. For us, the atmosphere of the venue and décor was really important to me. The band and entertainment were most important to my husband.

Weddings are a money pit but I don’t regret choosing vendors that matched my vision. The best advice I got was – that no one is going to remember the color of the chair they were sitting on or if you had a napkin ring- they will however remember the overall feel of the wedding, the entertainment, and the food. Don’t lose the bigger picture- the coming together of people to celebrate your love.

That is what will be remembered in the end for you and your guests. Also- thinking out of the box pays off. We had a very nontraditional wedding- a short ceremony, our friend was the Officiant, we had no bridesmaids or groomsmen, and we had live band karaoke so our guests could partake in the entertainment. This made our wedding very personal and special for us.
