Dennis & Katie // rustic vintage ranch style wedding photographer // Santa Barbara photographer

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR WEDDING?  //  We wanted to get married in Katie’s hometown of Carpinteria and wanted it to be outside.  //  When we found our venue, Katie’s childhood best friend’s house, the inspiration was built in.  The house, back yard, horses, extensive gardens and green lawns inspired our rustic estate wedding.  We wanted people to feel like they were at a fancy backyard family BBQ.

WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE/FAVORITE PART ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DAY?  //  I think when my great Aunt Pat slipped the DJ her CD and led the whole wedding in a line dance on the dance floor.  She’s in her 80s and can still get everyone movin’ and shakin’!  I saw everybody cutting loose.

WHY WAS PHOTOGRAPHY IMPORTANT TO YOU?  //  The day went by so fast, like one exciting blur.  Katie spent the entire reception at the sweetheart table or dancing on the floor with guests and never saw the welcome table, buffet, fireplace lounge or dessert bar.  Having all the details from the ceremony and reception captured in photos helps immortalize the story of the full experience and each special moment.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SUN & SPARROW?  //  Sun and Sparrow really understands what it’s like to get married.  Tiffani, having been married herself, gave us insightful tips about the most important moments to capture and really understood all that goes into making a wedding day special.  I loved having Tiffani and Claudia checking in with us throughout the wedding and showing us photos they had taken to give us a sense of the moments they had captured.  It really made us feel a part of the process.

DID YOU DO ANY DIY PROJECTS? IF SO, WHAT?   //  When I first got engaged Katie went on Pinterest to get inspired.  Katie loved the thumbprint art idea to make the welcome table interactive and personal.  //   http://pinterest.com/pin/94575660896597498/. We drew the bottom of a hot air balloon on thick paper and had guests make the balloons with their thumbprint.

We enlisted Katie’s sister to draw the wedding table numbers and signs and got out the hot glue gun to make fun props for the photo booth.  To help everyone get to know Dennis and me better, we placed signs on the tables with fun facts about us to create conversation starters.  http://pinterest.com/pin/94575660897353412/

Katie gave her bridesmaids small bottles of white wine with straws when getting ready so no lipstick smeared.  http://pinterest.com/pin/94575660897353432/

And Katie sent Dennis and his groomsmen little bottles of Jack Daniels with notes and well wishes for them.

We also printed our engagement photo on some Youbars from Dennis’ company (Youbars.com) to make as party favors.

WHAT WAS YOUR SOMETHING OLD, NEW, BORROWED, BLUE?  //   My old was my aunts grandmothers pearl and diamond earrings, my new was my shoes (etsy pink2blue swavorski crystal ballet flats), borrowed was my friend Kat’s purple clutch purse, and my blue was a blue garter.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR BRIDES WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PLANNING PROCESS?  //  Let people help you.  Remember this is not just your day, it’s a party for your guests and you want them to be comfortable.  Make it personal and involve your family and friends in ways that show their strengths.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF BEING MARRIED NOW?  //  The wedding was a lot of time and planning and now we just get to enjoy each other and get into a nice routine.

///////////   Alright! Time to enjoy!! Who wouldn’t love a rustic vintage ranch style wedding?!?   ///////////
