::How We Met::
Nathan and I grew up at the same church. We’ve known “of” each other for over a decade, but did not officially meet until 2010!
It was not an instant attraction. We later found out that neither of us thought much of the other person, aside from the other person seeming nice.
We ended up serving together regularly during service days and on a leadership team. We realized that we had similar family trials and one day after packing food at a food center, Nathan dropped me off at home and decided he wanted to chat about our similarities in the cold, for THREE hours. Even then, we did not recognize any romantic connection, but we began to talk and hang out more frequently. This went on for about 7 months until he asked me to be his girlfriend.
::What We Love Most About Each Other::
Nathan: First and foremost, I love the heart that she has for Jesus Christ. Beyond her beauty, courage, love and support it is just that that I am in love with.
Pia: I love Nathan’s steadfastness. He is steadfast in his faith in Christ, his composure, and his servant heart. There are many times where I falter or am prone to reacting too quickly and Nathan’s steadfast nature challenges and motivates me.
::How He Proposed::
Nathan recognized my insane love for escape rooms and planned for many of our close friends to do an escape room with us. I knew something was up, when they were all there and no one told me they were going to be there. The item that would mark us “escaping” the room had a box of the same color hidden under it. It was dark and the box was black. One of my friends unknowingly got to it first and bypassed the need to solve the clue. One of his friends picked up the box! I was then instructed to get the box and open it, when I turned back around, Nathan was on one knee and inside was a lit up box that contained a ring. I LOVE how the whole night was full of tiny hiccups that we could laugh about. I said yes, of course, and then we celebrated with more friends and family at dinner.
::What We are Looking Forward to About Our Wedding the Most::
Nathan: It has been a long 7 years together full of ups and downs. Persevering together and trusting in our Lord has been hard but has kept us united. For all of this to culminate on our wedding day and to all that is in store is what I most look forward to. Celebrating and enjoying life, being married to my best friend will be amazing!
Pia: We have endured a lot of challenges, sadness, loss, and hurt on both sides of our families. What I most look forward to, because of those things, is coming together as one family to have a day of celebration. A time of laughing together, dancing, and enjoying one another’s company.

FROM THE BRIDE //  Our wedding day can be described in only one word: magical. I remember feeling stressed the entire week over the possibility of rain, but when I woke up that morning I felt surprisingly calm.  The day went by seamlessly with the sun shining! Getting ready with the girls before the wedding was so much fun. We listened to music and danced up a storm (especially my mother). I surprisingly was hungry and able to eat a lot! Once Sun & Sparrow arrived however, things started to feel very real. I am normally the one in control at all times (disclaimer: I was a bridezilla) and the day of I let the reigns go because Ellie was able to execute my itinerary flawlessly. She got everyone moving and shaking! Before the ceremony, Chris and I had our first look which was very beautiful and private. We continued taking pictures with our family and friends at the beautiful Calamigos Ranch Oak Room and I was absolutely blown away by the enchanting arch that Petals & Linens executed. I was speechless at our floral arrangements! We hired a jazz band for the ceremony and cocktail hour which all of our guests really enjoyed under the gorgeous chandeliers of the outdoors area. After walking down the aisle, the party flew by. Dancing was one of my favorite parts, especially when my new husband decided to do the running man on the floor! It was a beautiful party to celebrate the beginning of a lifelong relationship and I couldn’t be more thankful for our supportive families and of course our amazing vendors!
One special moment that sticks out the most to me is the first look with my Dad. It was the only time I felt really emotional. I saw his eyes get watery and it just broke me. Also, his father of the bride speech was very genuine and from the heart. It was very special for my family.
If I could give one piece of advice to couples currently in the planning stages is to have a first look. The day goes by so fast and it was nice to have the pictures all taken care of prior to the ceremony. Plus your hair and makeup is perfect still. Also, do not download three different weather apps and stare at them all day long leading up to the wedding. It is what it is!
What inspired you while planning your wedding & decor? Was there any special element that made your decor come together for you, personally?
I have always loved the movie The Secret Garden since I was a little girl. I was very inspired by that movie and wanted to recreate it with a bright colored floral arch that looked like it grew from the ground and the waterfall backdrop.

Joey & Mariah // Romantic fairytale wedding at Calamigos Ranch

FROM THE BRIDE // I, like most little girls, dreamt of my future wedding well before it came to life! Thinking back about the day still makes me tear up. I did not sleep much the night before the wedding so many emotions ran through my head. My day started early with my bridesmaids running into my room and maid of honor shaking me awake yelling “You’re getting married time to get up!”. From the moment I woke up we began checking things off the timeline. Hair- check, makeup-check, photos-check, dress on-check. While everything moved around me I remember feeling this inner peace and silence like someone was telling me everything would be perfect. All of the emotions that kept me up the night before were silenced. Things just felt right. The rain that had been pouring down all night and most of the morning finally came to an end, and it was time to put my dress on. My mom helped me get into my dress and put on all of my details before I revealed it to my girls and closest family. Just before getting into the limo to go to the venue my dad (who had not seen my dress before) came for his reveal. Being a “daddy’s girl”, I knew I would cry the whole way down the aisle if I did not do this father daughter moment early enough in the day! A limo ride and some photos later it was time to walk down the aisle. Butterflies filled my stomach, and on came my song. My brother walked our dogs Sadie-Rae and Scout down first, and then my father escorted me down the aisle, handed me off to Joey and our ceremony began. I remember seeing him for the first time, waiting at the end of the aisle. Its a difficult emotion to describe seeing your forever waiting for you. Holding Joeys hands and looking into his eyes, committing to spend the rest of my life with him was one of the happiest moments in my life. When it came time to exchange rings, my maid of honor had to quickly run back to the bridal suite to get Joeys ring that had been left behind. Joey and I both laughed (and our guests too) and took this time to look out into the seats and see everyone who came to support us on our special day. We finished the ceremony, had our first kiss as Mr. and Mrs. and for the first time we were announced as husband and wife! Joey and I decided it was more intimate to do communion the first time as husband and wife with just our pastor right after the ceremony. It gave us time to let everything set in and a moment of silence to thank God for all that He has given us. The party began not long after an amazing dinner with speeches, dancing, dessert bars, photo booth fun and a late night espresso bar. Several dances, photos, and laughs later the last dance was called, and the night came to an end. Before my wedding I was given great advice from my sister-in-law to just enjoy and take in every moment (anticipated or not), because it is over in a blink. I love being a wife and, looking back, would not have changed a thing about our wedding! I am so appreciative to everyone who helped our fairytale wedding play out.

What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?

Walking down the aisle and seeing Joey for the first time. We both felt strongly that we wanted the first time seeing each other to be when I walked down the aisle. And Joey’s only request was that the aisle be long enough for him to take the moment in.

What inspired you while planning your wedding & decor?

I wanted simple timeless elements, lace, pearls, roses, and diamonds combined with the natural rustic elements in the venue.

Do you have any advice for brides who are currently planning their weddings?

It is easy to get caught up in the details; don’t lose sight of why you are having a wedding. The most important part is you are marrying the man (or woman) of your dreams. The rest will fall into place.
